Tiesto and Toni Verdi Interview – Madrid Electronic Conference

Proving electronic music is as strong as ever a new conference has arrived in the form of the Madrid Electronic Conference or MEC for short. The first edition of this pioneering event takes place in July at Casa De Campo in the heart of Spain?s capital city Madrid. The multidisciplinary day programmes will encompass debates, interactive stands, equipment displays, networking lounges, VJ and DJ performances and workshops. Full day programmes are coming soon. There will also be professionals speaking on the social issues that can affect the industry and youth culture in general; this will be unique to MEC. Topics covered will include drug prevention, addiction programmes, social integration and more.
Madrid Electronic Conference will bring together industry professionals, respected producers, artists and more under one roof for 4 days to swap ideas, create opportunities and generally have a great time linking the different area?s of music, art and media in one of the most cosmopolitan and welcoming cities in the world.
The Night events will take place over 3 evenings with one evening dedicated to trance, techno and house respectively. All the DJs have been hand picked for their global relevance to today?s scene. The below names will no doubt add energy and enthusiasm to an event that has been created out of a love of the music scene and a desire to create something new and fresh.
Two DJ’s Tiesto and Toni Verdi took time out to give there views on MEC.

How do you feel about being involved in a new music conference?
I think it?s a great idea to set up a music conference in Spain as the scene is really big. I always like new and fresh initiatives so therefore I wanted to participate in the Madrid Electronic Music Conference.
What do you know about the Madrid Electronic Conference?
That it?s gonna be an amazing event!
What do you think of Madrid as a city? Will you be taking any time out to go there?
It?s a beautiful city with a lot of cultural history. Crazy about soccer and music, like me J.
Do you attend other Conference?s such as Miami?s WMC and Amsterdam?s Dance Event? What do you think these type of events bring to the scene?
I attend the WMC every year. I think the worldwide Music Conferences have a contribution on the development of dance music on an international level
What can people expect from your set on the night?
A set filled with the Sound Of Ti?sto!
Finally, what are you up to at the moment? Do you have any exciting new projects?
I?m currently touring through North-America and I will be touring through Europe a lot during the coming summer. During the weekdays I will spend a lot of time in my studio to produce new tracks. I am just finishing a track now with maxi jazz from the band faithless

How do you feel about being involved in a new music conference?
I?m very happy to be participating and for me it?s always a pleasure to be able to indulge in musical debate with as much of the public as possible while at the same time sharing billing with artists of the highest standard. I can enjoy styles and visions different to my own, I believe you should never shut yourself off and focus solely on what you are doing, you need to be open to everything.
What do you know about the Madrid Electronic Conference?
As far as I know this the first one. And the first festival of this type in Madrid. I think it?s good for the city that an event of this calibre and characteristics is being held there and at the same time it?s good for Spain. There?s a great line up over the three days and a very ample musical programme. I hope and trust that this first event will be the start of a great journey.
What do you think of Madrid as a city? Will you be taking any time out to go there?
Madrid is a beautiful city and important metropolis which offers a wide and varied culture, I tend to visit every year. It has an important nocturnal network of clubs and bars where the best of many genres like music, television or cinema of this country gather, genres that use any night of the week to celebrate the end of shooting for example, which means it?s very easy to find venues full of people any day of the week! I?ll hopefully take a day out as I have friends in Madrid so I?ll make the most of it and visit them.
Do you attend other Conference?s such as Miami?s WMC and Amsterdam?s Dance Event? What do you think these type of events bring to the scene?
I?ve not been to these in particular but I?ve attended other large events like Sonar in Barcelona, Impulz in Amsterdam and almost all of the Monegros Groove Parades amongst others.
What can people expect from your set on the night?
My sessions try to be as eclectic as possible always centred on my musical restlessness and what I?ve been liking most recently. For me a good record is a good record, there?s no need to think up labels, it all comes under electronica and it?s various forms.
Finally, what are you up to at the moment? Do you have any exciting new projects?
I?m currently concentrating on my sound engineering studies, which means I?m not left with a lot of time, but I have two or three projects in early stages which I intend on working on and giving some shape.
