This Way UP LP Sampler No.4: DJ Friction & Aquasky ‘Control Freek’ and Kid Blue ‘Crunch’

September 10, 2007

Passenger Records excellent new mix album ‘This Way Up’ is the debut breaks mix album from D’n’B legend DJ Friction featuring 14 brand new and exclusive tracks from some of the scenes hottest producers. The fourth sampler to drop contains Friction’s first breaks outing ‘Control Freek’ (alongside Passenger Records boss’ Aquasky and MC Spyda) whilst on the flip Lot 49 artist and Chew The Fat! Resident Kid Blue drops ‘Crunch’

At the age of 27 Friction has risen through the ranks of Drum N Bass to become one of the leading DJ and producers on the scene. With releases across seminal labels such as Valve, Tru Playaz, Renegade Hardware alongside his own Shogun Audio imprint, Friction has taken over the world with his unique DnB sound. ‘Control Freek’ sees his first breaks release showing he is more than able at delivering the goods to both floors alike and following a long line of DnB artists to ‘do’ breaks, Friction brings his passion for precision beats and bass and teams up with Passenger Records head honcho’s Aquasky and DnB MC Spyda to deliver one of the slickest breaks tracks around

Kid Blue has been carving out a tight little niche for himself on the world’s dance floors, starting off with as co-promoter and resident of Leeds leading tech/breaks fest Technique until he moved to London where he now runs Chew The Fat! DJ agency as well as being resident DJ for Fat! Parties at The End and Ministry Of Sound and internationally as well. His first production ‘Nothing To Lose’ came out on Lot 49 records and got plays from people as diverse as Hybrid, Zabiela and Laurent Garnier whilst further remixes and productions have seen him rise up as one of the most forward thinking producers in the scene. ‘Crunch’ is a tech inspired cut to balance the beat and bass of Friction’s A Side and will see interest raised in many scenes, not just breaks.

‘This Way Up’, Friction’s debut breaks mix album on Passenger Records (released Oct 1st folks) features 14 brand new and unreleased tracks from some of the hottest talents in the world of breaks, commissioned especially for this album. Featuring new music from DJ Phetsta, Nick Thayer & Micah, Element, Klaus Hill, Dopamine, Kid Blue, Rico Tubbs, Rob Le Pitch, Backdraft, Friction and Timmy Schumacher and more, all of which will be released over the rest of 2007 as a series of 12” and digital downloads ‘This Way Up’ is one of the most exciting album projects in 2007. Trust.
