The End and Red Bull launch pioneering youth music
3/07/2006Pioneering London club The End has joined forces with Red Bull in a ground-breaking project aimed at creating new opportunities in music for young people at the legendary Roundhouse which recently reopened following a ?30 million redevelopment.
The club pledged to raise ?70,000 to fund The End Studios which will be unveiled at the Roundhouse Studios press launch on 5 July. The significant funds have been raised through a combination of sponsorship from The End, clubbers? voluntary contributions on the door and support from Red Bull.
At the heart of the Roundhouse project is the Roundhouse Studios, a space to create for hard to reach young people aged 13-25 years. The End have sponsored two studios and Red Bull a third studio space in the former undercroft which lies directly beneath the Roundhouse Main Space. The End Studios will allow large numbers of young people to benefit from state- of-the art equipment and the expertise of some of the leading figures in electronic music to learn skills in mixing and music production.
Also on offer in the Roundhouse Studios are projects for young people to gain experience in the creative industries across all art forms including music, film, theatre, dance, TV and radio broadcasting and new media. As partners in the project, The End and Red Bull will be helping young people to develop their interests and skills and inspire many, who may have disengaged from the traditional education system, to explore alternative career paths in the music industry
Red Bull is well established in the music industry so getting involved in this project was a natural progression of the company?s ongoing commitment to the scene. The Red Bull Music Academy, which has now been running for nine years, is widely recognised as a credible platform for aspiring talent, and its students from all genres of music will have the opportunity to benefit from the newly opened studios at The Roundhouse.
This is the first time a club such as The End has been involved in a community project in this way, and the venue is taking the lead in expanding the role of nightclubs not just as dancing and drinking establishments, but as businesses that can play a valuable role in the community. The club is planning to run a series of workshops and seminars at the new studios, using the knowledge and experience of some of the high profile artists and resident DJ?s at The End.
Zoe Paskin, MD of The End, comments: ?After ten years of being at the forefront of London?s underground music scene, we wanted to celebrate by contributing something to the wider community around us and creating opportunities for the next generation of DJ?s and producers.
?The End Studios will provide a unique facility for aspiring young musicians to develop the essential skills needed to work in the field of electronic music. We hope to give young people a chance to develop talents that may otherwise go undiscovered, and inspire some of them to start a career in the music industry.?
This pioneering project will see The End continue to blaze a trail as an innovator in the UK club scene. The venue was the first to host cutting edge underground music in a state of the art venue, and the first to introduce the DJ bar to the UK through it?s sister venue the AKA. The club continues to innovate, consistently introducing new talent to thousands of clubbers and attracting music lovers from all over the world.
