Steve Sutherland - Independents

Four times Mobo award winning DJ Steve Sutherland has just launched a new feature called ‘Independents’ – a showcase of the best independent UK & international dance & urban music broadcast in his weekend show ‘Galaxy Presents Steve Sutherland’.
Each week across the Galaxy Network, Steve Sutherland will spin fresh independent material alongside major label tracks providing a major platform to showcase new talent which might otherwise be unheard of on a commercial station. ‘Independents’ will be smoothly mixed into the rest of the show underlining Steve’s vision of whether it comes from a bedroom producer or a major act its all about the music:

‘Independents is a groundbreaking platform for the freshest independent tracks that I think deserve radio play. Each week I want to educate listeners with great original music that excites me just as much as the latest major releases. My show on Galaxy has always been about being on the pulse of new music and Independents is just another way to keep that spirit alive’

From ambitious bedroom producers to DIY singers, ‘Independents’ has an open music policy with entrants handpicked from all over the world through the Galaxy website and Myspace. Budding musicians simply submit an mp3 to the show and if they are chosen Steve will profile and encourage listeners to request respins of their favourites.

Steve has always been a strong supporter of talent at a grass-roots level with recent projects including Rhyme4Respect a national song writing competition and T4 talent show Chancers - currently running on Channel 4. A recognisable face in the media he is continually called upon to offer advice and give credibility to music projects and events.

With major interest already from music makers throughout the UK in particular London, Birmingham , Manchester, Yorkshire and the North East, ‘Independents’ looks set to grow and grow as a pioneering project giving musicians an outlet to reach an audience hungry for new music which offers something a little bit different…
