Splittr
October 25, 2007
Splittr is the meeting of minds of award winning house producer / remixer and DJ, Martijn ten Velden and Mark Yardley, one half of the world renowned breakbeat act, Stanton Warriors.
As Splittr, Mark and Martijn combine their collective skills and tastes to produce a very fresh take on electronic music. In fact they started the project to give them the opportunity to split away from any preconceptions people may have of them + any musical restrictions dance music genres can create.
“It seemed like a perfect name for us” says Mark Yardley – “both of us had talked about going in the studio together for a long time and finally getting round to it, we were both keen to create music which knows no boundaries ! We wanted to meld our influences together and split away from what people knew us as”
Martijn feels the same way “Splittr is a chance for Mark and I to let whatever direction we want to go in be the driving force. We don’t want to be bound by musical restrictions which you sometimes feel working within a genre. It’s all about freedom within the creative process !! With both of us being musicians who love picking up a bass, playing keys, playing guitar, getting the saxophone out or indeed Mark finally using his hidden vocal talents - hopefully we can just add to the individual respect we get and open up the journey for the album….
“Their first release, ‘All Alone’ (which sees Mark take on vocal duties), has already created an underground buzz, with Pete Tong playing it regularly on his R1 shows, Steve Smart on Kiss FM Friday nights and Eddie Temple Morris on XFM. Now, with new remixes being promo’d, a brilliantly directed video shot in Sweden and a commercial release on Eye Industries / Universal in UK, Be Yourself Music / Universal in Benelux and MOS / EMI in Australia, Splittr are set to take their sound worldwide…
