Shonky “Olympia” EP
13/12/2006Shonky began DJing in 1998, after being inspired by DJs including Dan Ghenacia, Ivan Smagghe and :Terry: – at a time when Parisian underground clubbing was all about the Sunday morning parties “Kwailty” at Le Batofar; where Ghenacia was resident and both Smagghe and :Terry were regulars.
Since, Shonky has played at key Parisian clubs including Nouveau Casino, Le Rex, La Scene and of course the Freak n’Chic parties held at Le Zebre, an old theatre on the outskirts of Paris.
Shonky began producing in 2005, signing his first EP “Let me ask you” to Freak n’Chic.. He has since released on labels Reposal and Substatic and most recently released “August in Paris” on Mobilee, produced alongside Jennifer Cardini. Cardini also being his remix partner; both remixing for labels Crosstown (Mlle Caro and Franck Garcia’s “Far Away”), Mobilee and Microfun.
“Olympia” is a deep, heads down groover; a slow, beat-pushing builder with subtle trippy bleeps.. Designed for afterhour; good for any hour.
“Phantomas” is a darker, more intense production, bringing the tripped-out sounds to the foreground and pushing your mind sideways.
“Horizontal Moon” – part three of your little trip – the title says it all really.
