Shimon & Nixon

August 02, 2007

One’s a D&B don and founder of RAM Records, the other’s a professional snowboarder and formidable DJ with a world record under his belt (for the world’s highest DJ gig). Not the usual CVs you’d expect for breaks producers but Shimon & Nixon are proving themselves a force to be reckoned with, and they are only on their second full release.

The duo’s latest offering on the ever-busy Finger Lickin’ Records, is a two-track treat set to turn heads, torsos and toes of all breaks fans. The burbling bass of ‘Around The Edge’ is destined for sun-soaked dancefloors and homegrown festival tents alike. Shimon’s junglist influences are evident, as minimal keys sit atop warped synths and atmospheric vocals. ‘Whitenoise’ is a more instant club banger, taking a trip to the darker reaches. The omnipotent bassline pulsates its way into your brain and builds to a powerful breakdown, which grabs you by the jugular. Awesome.

Scott Nixon was first welcomed into the Finger Lickin’ fold a few years ago. A secret weapon in their breakbeat armoury, his scratch-fuelled love of a dirty bassline has destroyed dancefloors from Whistler to Val D’Isere, through to London’s Fabric, and last year saw him take things to a higher level as he claimed the Guinness World Record for the Highest Ever DJ Gig - travelling to Pakistan and an altitude of over 4200 metres in order to do so.

Shimon has been a player on the D&B scene for a few years now and first met professional snowboarder Scott on the slopes of Chamonix. An instant friendship developed and a series of heady nights in the studio followed, resulting in the pairs first track ‘I Like You’, which featured on this year’s ‘Freshtraxxx 2’ compilation.
