Plej are back

September 21, 2007

Swedish electronic duo Plej (pronounced ‘play’) are back this October (out October 8th) with their new single ‘Safe Place’, taken from their highly anticipated second album which is set for release in early 2008 on Exceptional Records.

The new album was written and produced by siblings Arvid and Erik Niklasson and mixed by fellow Swede Hird (‘Keep you hird’, ‘Moving On’ ) who also produced The Knife’s ‘Silent Shout’ and the currently hotter than hot Studio’s ‘West Coast’ album. Reluctant to give too much away Arvid describes the new album as an organic progression from their debut album which maintains Plej’s distinctive style whilst adding more live instrumentation.

Plej emerged in 2003 from the bourgeoning music scene in Gothenburg (also known as Gonkyburg and home to Swell Session, Ernesto, Hird and many more) with their seminal debut, ‘Electronic Music from the Swedish Leftcoast’.

The album achieved cult status via word of mouth and over the years has proved to be a timeless classic. Plej’s unique take on electronic music which incorporates lush atmospherics, warm instrumentation and sophisticated musicality won over not only dance connoisseurs but the general public all over the world.

Aside from working on Plej’s follow up Arvid and Erik have been busy with numerous other projects for the past couple of years. Unbeknownst to most, Erik is also the lead singer in The Similou who had a Top Ten hit last summer with the perfect shiny pop of ‘All This Love’ whilst Arvid created The Similou’s two first videos and provided the visuals for their tour.

Now focusing on Plej the brothers are working on videos for the album’s singles and putting their live show together.
