New Years Eve at The End - Layo & Bushwacka! and the Unabombers

November 29, 2006

New Years Eve - the end of twelve months of night-time shenanigans and the start of another. Looking back over the year with a slightly hazy memory, we?ve had some fantastic guests grace the decks of The End & AKA and some parties that we never wanted to finish. Some of the best nights of the year, however, have been with our very own kings of the blue DJ booth Layo and Bushwacka! at their monthly Olmeto parties. It seemed only fitting, therefore, that the deadly duo should welcome in 2007 with another of their legendary all night long performances.

Layo and Bushwacka!?s Olmeto night at The End draws in one of the most loyal, friendly and up for it crowds in the capital, and no wonder, as the music flows from deep house to breaks to techno via rolling drum lines, haunting melodies and funking electronic beats. 2006 saw the release of their third artist album Feels Closer, from which some of The End anthems of the year were born, including the growling title track, and the Joe Jackson inspired Ride the Train ? out in December with a new Bushwacka! mix.

Despite jetting around the world and whipping crowds into a frenzy from Argentina to Japan ? it?s The End that Layo and Bushwacka! return to every month with record boxes full of magic and a crowd that welcomes them back like long lost friends. Two of the most innovative DJ?s of our time, when they play together their distinctive mixing styles create a huge energy on the dancefloor - as Layo seamlessly builds layer upon layer of driving beats and emotive melodies, Bushwacka! slams in an acid techno track and cuts up energetic electro-tinged breaks

Upstairs in AKA, the Unabombers will be spinning a web of madness, mayhem and electrifying eclecticism. Hailing from Manchester, Luke Cowdrey and Justin Crawford set up their cult Electric Chair night in the same year that The End sprung into being, eleven years ago. The mix of music at their night, originally held in a sweaty basement, was a breath of fresh air in the Manchester club scene and quickly attracted an army of loyal followers. As the night grew it moved to the Music Box, and the Unabombers took their sound around the country and around the world. Their unique DJing style is hard to pigeonhole, but suffice to say it takes in house, disco, hip-hop, broken beat, Latin, soul, RnB, techno, funk and soul. They have remixed artists from Bugs in the Attic to Shur-I-Kan, and their Electric Chair compilations showcase their genre-detonating sets.

Past New Years Eve celebrations at The End have seen a host of memorable parties as some of our favourite DJ?s have welcomed in the new year to an ecstatic crowd. From Classic records with Tiefschwarz to Ben Watt?s Buzzin Fly label; from Roni Size?s Full Cycle to our favourite Frenchman Laurent Garnier joining Layo and Bushwacka!; and not forgetting an incredible millennium party with Subterrain vs. Wiggle, when clubbers just didn?t want to leave and the party carried on until midday! Out of all these spine-tingling nights, one of the best NYE parties we?ve had was in 2004 with Layo and Bushwacka! at the controls, so this year we are once again keeping it in the family. Forget self-improving New Years resolutions and instead resolve to lose yourself in the music and the electric atmosphere of The End & AKA as Layo and Bushwacka! and the Unabombers bring in 2007 ? start the clubbing year as you mean to go on!
