Liverpool Sound City - Update
May 15, 2008
With only two weeks away from the Liverpool Sound City music festival and conference, more and more acts and well known names from the music industry are clambering to add their names to a list which will form the first festival of its kind in Liverpool 08 Cultural calendar.
Ian McNabb, Peter Hooton from The Farm, Eugene McGuiness, The Metros, Make Model, iwasacubscout, The Whip, Santogold, Robots In Disguise and The Dykeenies are just some of the additions to the conference and festival line-up along with over 100 exciting bands and artists playing for free in several key locations across the city.
The 27th-30th May will see Liverpool recapture its musical heritage on an international scale as the city’s venues will be transformed to host some of the world’s freshest new talent alongside home-grown acts, including many unsigned hopefuls. Some of the leading lights of cutting-edge music will perform, from Reverend and the Makers to Mystery Jets, The Wombats to Lightspeed Champion, from Felix da Housecat to DJ Yoda and Laura Marling to Silver Jews with many, many more.
Liverpool Sound City also features conferences and panels with seasoned veterans and younger voices offering their opinions and ruminations on everything from the classic Manchester v Liverpool debate to the future of music production and publishing.
Kevin McManus, Director of Merseyside ACME: “The Sound City project was developed by ACME to showcase the strength of the region’s music sector. In partnership with Liverpool Culture Company we have agreed that this inaugural event will provide the lead-up to the Liverpool Sounds project, featuring Sir Paul McCartney. The plan is for Liverpool Sound City to become a major annual event alongside sister events such as South by South West and MIDEM.”
It all adds up to Liverpool Sound City setting the agenda for four days and four nights of music, parties and debate which will open up Liverpool to your ears, your mind and your soul!
Sound City is the only UK festival to be endorsed by SXSW (USA), MIDEM (France) and Musexpo (USA). More than 500 unsigned acts from all over the world have applied for the chance to play at the festival.
