Junkie XL – Today

July 26th, 2006

With ?Today? Tom Holkenberg AKA Junkie XL, releases his fourth full-length artist album to carry the Junkie XL name. Reverting to the more guitar-based sound of his first two albums ?Today? is lyrically more personal, musically more cohesive and focused than any other Junkie XL disc. ?My previous albums would go all over the place, from reggae to funk to techno, whatever,? Holkenborg says. ?The last three albums were big, conceptual albums, with a whole theory behind them, and for this album, I just went back to basics. I wanted to make 10 great tracks. This album is more of just one thing; it?s really a vibe that I?m in right now. So that?s why it?s called ?Today?, It?s pretty much where I stand right now in my musical development.?

With the single of the same name ready to drop with heavyweight remixes from UNKLE vs Mode Showdown, Fuzzy Hair and King Roc, this is a very big release indeed!

* JUNKIE XL masterminded one of the most successful remixes in history: the 2002 resurrection of Elvis Presley?s ?A Little Less Conversation,? a No. 1 smash in 24 countries.
* Other artists remixed by JUNKIE XL include Scissor Sisters, Depeche Mode, Coldplay, Britney Spears, UNKLE, Rammstein and Culture Club.
* JUNKIE XL has written scores for movies like The Matrix, Team America and Kingdom of Heaven, as well as music for video games Destroy All Humans and Xbox?s Forza Motorsport and commercials Nike and ADIDAS.
* JUNKIE XL produced works for such metal heroes as Sepultura, Soulfly and Fear Factory as well as notable dance music artists Sasha & Ti?sto.
* ?Today? is the follow-up to his third album, 2004?s Radio JXL – A Broadcast from the Computer Hell Cabin, a virtual, dream-like pirate radio station with the voices of Solomon Burke, Peter Tosh, Chuck D, Dave Gahan, Robert Smith and others strewn across clever, beat-laden JUNKIE XL creations.
* Musically ?Today? fits nicely with 80?s bands such as New Order, Depeche Mode and U2.
* The video for first single ?Today? is directed by Glenn Cole (also co-founder and creative director of advertising agency 72andSunny). The video features Tom Holkenborg (JUNKIE XL) has a barber who creates outrageous haircuts for anyone who visits his barbershop. Cole and Junkie XL first collaborated on a Nike World Cup commercial in 2002, which resulted in the JXL remix of Elvis’ “A Little Less Conversation”.
* JUNKIE XL relocated from Amsterdam to the Venice Beach area of Los Angeles to concentrate on film, video game and commercial projects
