Jack Rokka Vs Betty Boo release the electro club smash ‘Take Off’ on October 1st / 8th on the mighty Gusto recordings.
Insistent bassline? Check. Bouncy synths? Check. Breathy-rappy vocal? Check. General air of rebellion? Definitely. All this can only mean one thing: she’s back again.
“Now is the time to Relaunch The Brand,” admits the fragrant Ms Boo. “Cool pop is back –and, let’s face it,” she smiles, “I am the original Lily Allen.”
And such a saucy song too! “It might sound horny,” she whispers, “but it’s really about taking your dog for a walk in the back of the car.” Of course.
Don’t miss the video, which is a homage to vintage-era Boomania, complete with bubble car, Boo-ettes and Ms Boo in full Avengers splendour. A pretty good attempt to Relaunch The Brand then? “Well, we thought, why not?” she laughs. “Obviously we’re bringing it up to date as well. No purples. And absolutely no pinks.”
The collaboration came about when, at the end of last year, acclaimed producer duo Digital Dog sent their latest track to Judge Jules, under a new underground guise, Jack Rokka. The band’s Stephen Cornish says: “We gave Jules an exclusive remix of ‘Take Off’ and he championed it to the point that Gut records and several other majors were all after it. Gut signed it and invited Betty Boo to do the vocal.”
So is the start of a beautiful friendship? “Kind of,” says Betty. “We’re working together on the next single, which will have a smiliar electro sound – but with a bit of a 60s crossover. Beyond that – who knows?”
