It’s only a Sampler! - Gung Ho!

September 10, 2007

If 13 is unlucky for some then someone forgot to tell Gung-Ho! Now into its 13th stellar release Gung-Ho! hits us with a 4 track EP that exclusively showcases tracks from the recent Zoo Brazil long-player ‘It’s only a mix tape’

Aptly titled ‘It’s only a Sampler!’ this release has something for everyone. New signings Zoo Brazil are first up with their minimal tech-monster ‘Over the Hill’ before giving way to the perfectly warped and trippy melody of ‘Back to Back’.

Richard Murray and Paul Deighton follow with all the bouncy loveliness of ‘Step it up’ followed by Paul Deighton’s ‘Dirty Harry’ – unashamedly techy in its approach with rolling, satisfying bleeps and squeaks. It’s vocal goes something like this - ‘I see your eye’s take a picture’ – at 4am, we’ve all been there.

Despite the name, Zoo Brazil hail from Stockholm, John Andersson and Johan Emmoth form the group and since 2001 they’ve notched up some 40 original productions. Signing to the likes of Fine, Junior, Music for Freaks and now of course, Gung-Ho!

Richard Murray is on a different tip to Zoo Brazil, his residency at Ministry of Sound’s Housexy nights saw Richard build a name for himself and cross over into the main-stream, recently mixing a CD for a national paper. He’s played gigs across the globe including Bahrain, Holland, South Africa, Poland, Switzerland and The Philippines to name a few.

‘Step it up’ and ‘Dirty Harry’ are outings 5 and 6 for Paul Deighton on Gung-Ho! Clearly a relationship that serves both parties well Paul has teamed up with Richard for some killer productions and already has another in the pipeline in the form of ‘Can’t Stop Movin’ (forthcoming on Gung-Ho!)

Gung-Ho! is the creation of ex-Underwater boss Matt Stuart. His formidable ear for finding quality music and a personal belief in the talent he cultivates has seen Matt become an authority on the scene.

The burgeoning label has signed music from GUSGUS, Luke Walker, DJ Loki, Rob Hawk & MYSOUL, L.E.O, DNA Orchestra and more. Matt’s own influences include The Black Crowes, Rolling Stones, Underworld, Chemical Brothers, John Lydon, Sex Pistols and that little Football team Everton.
