Eskimo Disco
11/04/2007Freshly signed to the infamous, cult ‘indie’ label Stiff Records, Eskimo Disco are only the second band in 20 years to be signed by the label alongside recent newcomers The Enemy.
“What Is Woman?” is an electro-funk sci-fi stomp that wouldn’t sound out of place on the soundtrack to a 2007 version of Barbarella. Produced by Apollo 440’s Howard Gray at Apollo Studios, Eskimo Disco’s studio sound has taken a stride away from the synthesized uber pop of their past by capturing the raw energy that resonates from their live sets. Gray’s experience of producing acts from The Cure to Art Brut over a career spanning 20 years is the perfect match for Eskimo Disco’s eclectic sound.
Providing remixes are French house wonder boy Fred Falke who has previously cut tracks for Goldfrapp, Kelis and Bodyrox among others and Barry Dobbin from much missed cult indie outfit Clor, who delivers a synth symphony whisking the dancer floor through trance to dub via 8 bit video game sounds in a neat and tidy 4:36.
