Enchantment Under the Sea – Together – Turnmills
31/03/2006There?s something fishy going on at Together?s Aquatic Adventure on Bank Holiday Saturday 29th April, as we go deep beneath the surface for a nautical musical discovery. Fresh from March?s ?Some Mothers Do ?Ave It? party (where the ?Best Dressed Mum? won a top of the range sewing machine!), we?ll be making a right splash this month as Together presents ?Enchantment Under the Sea? and welcomes some very special sea creatures to our blue lagoon.
The main room will feature a rare UK set from global techno pioneer John Acquaviva. The Acqua-holic has been immersed in clubland since the late 70?s and during that time he?s graced the decks of more than 2000 clubs worldwide. Since the turn of the millennium, Acquaviva?s has also branched out beyond the core of DJing and production, becoming instrumental in the discovery and launch of pioneering music technology – Finalscratch (DJ Tool) and Beatport.com (the worlds leading electronic music download service). Dive head first into our underwater soundscape and you?ll also unearth hot electro mermaids Chicks on Speed (DJ Set) and Together big fish Justin Robertson, who?s back in the hotseat this month. Meanwhile, newbie Dan Van Damn gets a chance to sparkle in the sea light, as he debuts early on. We stumbled across one of his mixes on The Chemical Brothers? forum and was so impressed that we thought we?d throw him in at the deep end!
Things should go swimmingly from here, as Turnmills? former weekly club night Headstart rears its eclectic head in T2 for a one-off sea battle versus Carbon Records. Before its demise, Headstart was revolutionary in helping catapult the careers of Groove Armada, Darren Emerson, Andrew Weatherall, Richard Fearless & Dave Clarke to name a few. Headstart was also the home of weekly residents FC Kahuna, and this month Dan & Jon will be returning to their old stomping ground for a bit of a session! Nag Nag Nag?s delightful JoJo De Freq joins the Kahuna brothers behind the decks – as she skillfully mixes tuneful techno, electro-disco and synthetic house, whilst Polish sharks 3 Channels (Cross Town Rebels) supply the murky and minimal beats to finish things off. But before all that, Carbon Records? Mike Oman will be in charge of firing up the floor as the doors swing open and the troops come rushing in.
A short Stealth swim onto T3 will lead you to a very special guest spot from Drum & Bass legend Roni Size. The man behind Full Cycle records and the Mercury-Award winning Reprazent project (which spawned classic cuts ? ?Brown Paper Bag, Heroes? and ?Watching Windows?) will be joined by Hospital Records? amazing London Elektricity ? who?s current track ‘Remember The Future? is already one of the biggest tracks of 2006. The very ?Sincere? MJ Cole gets in the action too, with Youngsta warming up and Fozz, Ayah & Task acting as hosts for the night.
FishseeksBicycle will be on hand to supply some well deserved crazy air up stream in the Cinema Lounge… before you hit dry land up in Topfloor, where the rocking Rokit people spin some more rockabilly (courtesy of The Wonderstuff), around a live acoustic set from Dot Allison (One Dove). Cult mag, Full Moon Sports Bag will be co-hosting the evening?s entertainment which includes amusing tales from old skool eastender Mick The Finder. Chris? Amazing Advice Booth will also be available for naughty sea monsters to confess their fins, sorry sins, plus Ollie & Gav?s Traveling Cockney Knees Up is back by popular demand for another drunken sing-along. Drink like a fish, take the bait. Ice creams and the sand pit will be located on the prom – deck chairs next to decks. Blow my barnacles this is gonna be oceanic…
