D’Julz ‘Runny

April 26, 2007

D’Julz’s second EP release of 2007 comes on Steve Bug’s Poker Flat recordings with two-tracker ‘Runny’ and ‘Sign’ - also including a remix of ‘Runny’ by Dan Berkson and James What.

‘Runny’ (already used by Locodice on his new Time Warp compilation mix) kicks-up a marching bottom-line throughout, whilst slightly wonky synths weave in and around - giving you a nicely tilted effect that takes a break in the middle and rolls ’til the end.. Imagine a slightly warped fairground in your head.. Dan Berkson and James What’s remix strips back the original and turns it into a slow-pushing, old-skool dubby groover.

‘Sign’ carries a deeper, dubbed-out vibe; a simple-yet-effective groove with the subtle element of funk steps together with slow-synth stabs and a few extras.

As well as releasing on Poker Flat’s ‘brother from another mother’ side-label Dessous (with ‘Berlingo’ last year), D’Julz has also released on labels including Ovum, 20:20 Vision, Brique Rouge and more recently Poussez with his ‘Flick It’ EP.. He has also remixed for labels including Bugged Out! The End Recordings, Paper, Twisted and this year remixed DJinxx’s ‘Be Quiet’ on Electrochoc and Thugthucker’s ‘Ahhh’ on Thugthucker Recordings.

DJing since 1992 - and holding down a style that mixes house, deep techno and strong influences of acid funk - D’Julz currently holds a monthly residency at the infamous Rex Club in Paris. With the residency now 10 years strong, D’Julz regularly invites guests including Steve Bug, Josh Wink, Loco Dice and Luciano to play - pushing the Parisian sound forward. Outside of Paris he DJs at Tenax in Florence, Cocoon in Frankfurt, Panorama Bar in Berlin, Back to Basics in Leeds and London’s Fabric, amongst many.

D’Julz ‘Runny/Sign’ is released May 21st (vinyl) and June 8th (digital) on Poker Flat.
