DJ Hal - Close My Eyes

May 10, 2007

Having been recently been featured as “one to watch” in both DJ Magazine & IDJ, and having the Trophy Twins feature him on their excellent BBC Radio 1 show, DJ HAL the multi-talented producer from Nottingham, is back once again with arguably his most exciting production to date. The original mix of “Close My Eyes” is a radio friendly breakbeat orientated indie-edged song, complete with vocals from DJ HAL himself, that is utterly compelling. It’s been described as being akin to pogo-ing in a mosh pit with John Lydon, and that’s not far wide of the mark! To further fuel the fire and explore different dancefloor angles, DJ HAL and Advanced Records have enlisted the remix talents of a diverse selection of both new and established talent from around the globe.

San Francisco legend, Gavin Hardkiss (aka Hawke), can always be relied on to create something wondorous and original when he sets foot in the studio, and here he recreates the original song in his own distinctly original house style. Gavin is indelibly linked with a mystical form of electronic dance music that globally represents San Francisco. As one-third of the famed Hardkiss trio (with “brothers” Scott and Robbie Hardkiss), Gavin has helped to create and encourage a spirited, psychedelic approach to music and life with genre-defying songs and DJ sets. The Hardkiss label released various singles and one stunning compilation, “Delusions of Grandeur”, in the mid-90s, which served as a veritable blueprint for so many future artists, and one that continues to be referenced and admired throughout the world.

Meanwhile, Berlin’s Michael Siegle, aka Drei Farben House (who records for Kompakt & Force Tracks), takes the more minimal route, and takes the song down an entirely different path. Then fellow Nottingham resident, the one and only Tony Thomas, who can always be relied on to turn in on of his sonically superior twisted electro house remixes, duly does so.

Finally, Advanced Records artists, the 23 year old twin brothers Mark and Richie Thompson from Ireland, aka Celtec Twinz, work their magic, bringing the package to a hi-octane finale. Their sound incorporates and fuses the old traditional percussive instruments of Irelands turbulent and tribal past with the forward thinking element of dance music…Techno.
