As familiar as the seasons, a Summer is not deemed to have fully arrived until the first opening parties of Ibiza’s legendary nightclubs have kicked off in typical hedonistic glory. Still 20 years on and clubbers from all parts of the world see the white isle as their spiritual summer home for dance music.

Cr2 Records, and owner Mark Brown, can proudly claim to have played their own part in making Ibiza that magical place for so many people. As one of the leading independent dance music labels in the UK, they are respected worldwide for their broad roster of talent old and new and cutting edge A&R.

Think back to tracks such as ‘The Rub’ by Kurd Maverick, Fedde Le Grand ‘Put Your Hands Up For Detroit’, Federico Franchi ‘Cream’, Ito & Star ‘Sudoko Kid’ and one of Ibiza’s most played tunes in 2008 ‘Hulk’ by DJ Wady & Patrick M.

Cr2 released their first Ibiza LIVE & DIRECT compilation in 2008, and it still remains in the Top 50 dance album charts in Denmark, France & Sweden, and Top 10 in Spain & Portugal. In the UK, the album made it into the Top 3 of the dance album chart on it’s release last June, sitting firmly alongside established brands such as Defected and Azuli.

Such success in it’s first year is testament to the high regard for the label, the strong branding…and most importantly, fantastic selection of unreleased and classic tracks featured on the album.

Ibiza LIVE & DIRECT 2009 follows a very similar format; CD1-Day kicks off with the Mark Brown & Adam Shaw remake of David Morales’ classic Ibiza anthem from ’98 ‘Needin U’, and features the massive ‘Cyan’ by Arno Cost and Cr2’s latest signing, the dutch sensation that is DJ Chuckie.

CD2-Night showcases the darker, techier releases forthcoming on the label from artists such as Tapesh, Paolo Mojo, Danny Freakazoid & Stu Hirst, and CD3 once again features a mix of classic tracks from the catalogue over the last 5 years.
