Cocoon - The End with Sven Vath

March 23, 2007

What does it take to be heralded as the ‘godfather’ of a scene? Firstly, I guess, you have to have been pushing your trade for a respectable amount of time – a couple of years just won’t cut it. Secondly, you have to be groundbreaking and pioneering – making and playing music that nobody else is. Thirdly, you have to leave a legacy – something that people can remember you by when you’ve hung up your headphones, sent your vinyl off to Oxfam and decided to open a bed and breakfast in Clacton-on-Sea instead.

Judging by these criteria, Sven Vath would have a pretty strong claim on the title ‘Godfather of Techno’. Twenty five years behind the decks, beginning when he was just a teenager at the legendary Dorian Gray club in Frankfurt, he was playing techno in its many variations when everyone else was still stuck on disco. He produces music that is scientifically proven to rewire your brain (it’s true!). And should, God forbid, he ever decide to open a B&B in Clacton, not only will he have left behind him the Cocoon club in Germany, but thousands of clubbers from London to Tokyo and back again will remember experiencing one of his frankly insane parties.

If you have never seen the party-master that is The Vath in action, shame on you. Make sure you rectify the situation immediately on April 14th when Sven next brings Cocoon to London. In The End’s blue DJ booth in the middle of the dancefloor, Sven is truly the ringmaster, presiding over a rapturous hands-in-the-air crowd who just can’t get enough of the thundering basslines, bewitching snares and relentless kickdrums. You know you’re gonna have to ride this one out ‘til Sven decides its time to go home.

Up in AKA, Luke Soloman marches his army of Little Creatures into town, including the legendary Rob Mello. Having hung up his Classic moniker, Luke’s latest project takes us on a journey from deep house to techno, via the scenic route of disco, minimal and electronica. Luke’s latest release – also entitled Little Creatures - is a driving, bumping, jacking number with a subtle male vocal that has been making clubbers cut some fine shapes on dancefloors across the land.

Put April 14th in your clubbing diary now – The Godfather awaits…
