Calvin Harris - new single & video- The Girls
May 19, 2007
2007 is Calvin Harris’ year. Just 23 years old and hailing from Dumfries, this young Scot has made a fast track rise from Marks & Spencers’ champion shelf-stacker to the dance pioneer on everyone’s lips within one year.
Since the release of debut single Acceptable In The 80s, Calvin has developed an impressive reputation and fan base, (both Mark Ronson & Groove Amada are noted fans) and has been propelled straight to the Top 10 of the charts.
Calvin Harris’s debut album, with the subtle title ‘I Created Disco’, cost nothing to record. He fashions future-disko using a battered old Amiga computer in his home studio. Not just one of those ‘myspace sensations’ you keep reading about. He is wildly popular amongst The Kids and on The Club Scene, a cult producer-slash-singer-slash-bedroom-knob-twiddler who can make the banging-est of electro dance tunes out of bugger-all kit. Writer, producer and visionary behind his own label FlyEye, Calvin is destined to define the sound of the summer. As Calvin explains: “Disco disappeared, didn’t it? Everyone got sick of it. Now I’m reviving it, with space goggles, or something.”
Next single ‘The Girls’ is a electro pop master class that has all the hallmarks of another huge record from this colossal new talent.
Remixes on the single are courtesy of Groove Armada, who deliver a stonking interpretation – indeed Calvin has already returned the favour with a remix of GA’s forthcoming single Get Down. The rapidly emerging Micky Slim completes the package in fine style.
