Beyonce leads the race for this year’s MOBO awards

Beyonce leads the race for this year’s MOBO awards, to be held tonight (Wednesday), closely followed by “Put Your Records On” UK newcomer Corinne Bailey Rae.
Former Destiny’s Child star Beyonce, is nominated in four categories for the 10th anniversary awards being held at TheRoyal Albert Hall and televised live for the first time, on BBC3 and is to be hosted by comedienne Gina Yashere .
Beyonce is also nominated for Best International Female — along with Janet Jackson, Nelly Furtado, Alicia Keys and Mary J. Blige — as well as for Best Song, Best Video and Best R&B Act.
Four new categories have been added this year, including Best UK Female and Best UK Male in recognition of Britain’s growing challenge to the U.S. domination of black music.
The 27-year-old Leeds singer Bailey Rae is in the running for Best UK Female, along with Best UK Newcomer and Best Song, nominations which come just six months after the release of her debut album.
Also up for Best UK Female are Jamelia, Alesha Dixon, Beverley Knight and Keisha White.
Former “Fame Academy” finalist Lemar, who won two Music of Black Origin (MOBO) awards last year, is nominated for Best UK Male this time.
Best Group will be a contest between Black Eyed Peas, Gnarls Barkley, Outkast, Pussycat Dolls and The Streets
