Guy Gerber ‘Disorientation’ (Supplement Facts) - incl Johnny D and Reboot remixes

The first 2008 release from Guy Gerber’s Supplement Facts imprint comes from Gerber himself with ‘Disorientation’, including remixes from two of the current most hotly tipped productions talents - Johnny D and Reboot.

“I made ‘Disorientation’ after a tour in South America in January this year. Some of my friends describe it as a futuristic Ennio Morricone sounding track, which is pretty amazing. I had the saxophone sample from a friend for a long time and was always playing with it, but all the time it was too ‘pretty’ for me. Until a few friends joined me for a late night session; about 8am, I was twisting it through a very cool effect and I got this very weird harmony out of it, and I knew that it was made..

‘Disorientation’ is Gerber’s first solo EP release since his ‘Belly Dancing’ EP last year on Cocoon Recordings, taken from his ‘Late Bloomers’ album - released later in May - an album which won him massive worldwide support and with which he toured Live around the globe.

“..I always like to tell a story in a track - to build a drama, then make the situation a bit chaotic and finish with an optimistic look into the future, which is also bitter/sweet ..”

Focus On: Argy - Poker Flat

Following on from Guido Schneider’s enigmatic ‘Focus On’ Album last year, Poker Flat are especially proud to introduce the next in the series, in the scintillating form of Focus On: Argy out on June 24th.

Comprising partly of new and exclusive productions by Argy with a strong handful of well known and up-coming names, and highlights from his back-catalogue of releases and remixes, the mix acts as a showcase for Argy’s unique style, taking influence from strong, energetic peak time house through to deep and spaced out percussive journeys. Hot collaborations with Solomun, The Mole, Maral Salmassi, DJ Gregory, Jerome Sydenham and Bayoga all open up various mindsets, various avenues of Argy’s musical passions, as we traverse through an impeccable selection of modern house music.

Not wishing to conform to the rules of a mainstream house DJ-compilation, Argy takes a bold and clear stance when it comes to the structure of the mix. The first three tracks start things running strong, as if you’ve just arrived in the middle of a peak-time set, with the phasing chord stabs from Argy’s Remix of Jerome Sydenham’s Ebian melting into the powerful bass of ‘The Storm’. It’s a soaring, urgent introduction that’s wonderfully unconventional and captures the complete spirit of Argy’s idealology. These tracks were designed for the dancefloor, and it spells out the intentions of the mix with style and honesty. From there on things become more cerebral, with Argy’s debut hit on Poker Flat, ‘Love Dose’, introducing a passage where time is frozen and the party begins to unfold at its own heady pace. From there on we are simply left in the delightful and submissive position of the Listener, as the introduction also serves as a contract between Argy and his audience. We are now completely under his spell… locked in and Focused On. Each track is clearly introduced with a defined mixing style, announcing each new moment to the audience and making a spectacle of the variety and depth of music on offer.

Primal Scream, Hercules and Love Affair, Reverend and the Makers, Erol Alkan, Radio 1’s Annie Mac are amongst the amazing line up that’s set to put Leeds back on the music map, this May, with the launch of Wax:On Live Dance Festival.

Taking place against a rolling green countryside backdrop, deep in the Yorkshire Dales, the one day music event will boast a synergy between the old and new of the dance and party scene. Consisting of six mighty music arenas, to cater for every music taste, and fresh from the massive success of it’s monthly club residency in Leeds, Waxon:Live creator Dan Blackledge comments: “Due to the success of the Waxon club night, an all day/night live version seemed the next step. i-Panik

“i-Panik”, the debut album from Skylark, AKA International DJ Nic Fanciulli and Andy Chatterley, has been bubbling under for the last few months as a digital only release on Beatport on Saved Records. Now, with a slew of top remixes carved out to contribute to the album, NRK Music, in conjunction with Saved, are proud to announce the full release of “i-Panik” along with a companion remix disc.

Skylark have built up a more than solid musical repertoire over the years, mostly as remixers, with artists such as Tiefschwarz, Deep Dish, Paul Woolford, Rulers Of The Deep, Kylie Minogue and Steve Lawler receiving the Skylark treatment to full effect. “i-Panik” sees Skylark lay down their own original production roots, and have crafted out an excellent 11 track album, exploring dancefloor and home listening excursions in deep techno, ambient and housier cuts. The pair have been working together for almost 10 years and their credentials are impressive. Last year they were nominated for a Grammy (yes that’s right – A GRAMMY!) under their Buick Project moniker, for their remix of Tiefschwarz’s ‘Damage’ collaboration with Tracy Thorn and together have released over 20 remixes and original productions.

Pete Tong Interview - International Music Summit

You are involved in the International Music Summit that is being held in Ibiza in May, tell us about it?

PETE TONG: Yes, I am a partner in a very exciting new venture to bring back a focus to the electronic music industry in probably the most obvious and ideal location in the world. Ibiza is really where the music industry looks for influence due to the length of the season, the incredible talent that passes through from the genre, and the hundreds of thousands of partygoers who come for dance music. We feel the industry has changed, is changing by the day, and we want to bring back a focus and a back to business ethos to what we do. The electronic industry is very unique, it’s very global, and it needs to install a new vision and ethos going forward to strengthen the genre and its image.

Why did you feel the need to be involved in a conference like this?
