Original 80’s New York House prodigy Todd ‘The God’ Terry returns to London after a long absence to show the capital just what it has been missing and to launch his newest album Strictly ‘Todd Terry’.
‘Todd the God’, they called him. In the late 80s, Todd Terry was New York house music. Arguably he invented it, certainly he defined it. In truth, the moniker was probably coined by a deadline-surfing journalist searching for a quick headline. However, it stuck, because Todd Terry bestrode the scene like a colossus. He remains there to this day, simply commanding respect from everyone he encounters. Just knowing he will play causes hype 20 years on.

His work in the 80 and early 90’s laid down the foundations of what we would call deep, progressive and jackin’ house and contributed greatly to the evolution of Strictly Rhythm. We have to remind you that this was the guy who introduced the nation to the beginning of Acid House, he bought us the crossover remixes of “I’ll House You” by the Jungle Brothers and “Missing” by Everything But the Girl and also had his own hits with “Something Goin On’” (1997) and “Keep on Jumpin” (1996) which were both UK Top-10’s. His reason for returning back onto the scene? A new album on Strictly Rhythm, a hypnotic mix of his most favoured releases from the early years of the label as well as his new single “Get Down” feat My My My vocalist Tara McDonald (a sure fire radio hit) produced by the Todd Terry All Stars, Todd’s new production crew consisting of Todd, Kenny Dope and DJ Sneak.

Hot off the heals from turning out the dirty remix of Groove Armada’s ‘Song 4 Mutya’, My Digital Enemy are back with their trash-electro assault ‘Time To Freak’.
The Brighton-based trio Harry Diamond, Segal Hall and Keiron McTernan have also found huge success with their ‘Sunset Strippers’ and ‘Machines Welding Weapons’ alias, with music used in CSI Miami, Mitsubishi and Rimmel adverts staring Kate Moss in America to name a small fraction of their work.
With two remixes supporting the original which supplies a bouncy, grimy beat with some dude telling us ‘Its Time to Freak’ expect to hear this at silly O’ Clock in a grubby warehouse. Prok & Fitch’s remix is a slightly more stripped back reverby affair with synthy strings and a breakdown to have the dance floor ready ‘to freak’ afterwards. And last but by no means least, MDE roll out a remix under their ‘Machines Welding Weapons’ guise, a bleepy breaks tinged take on the original with a heavy punch packing bass line.

There’s a party coming to town that cannot be missed – it’s the third birthday party of the glamorous Hat-Club, and it’s to be held at a venue never to have hosted a Hat-Club party before…
Hat-Club started in London, back in 2004 at an intimate venue attracting a hat wearing clientele on the strength of word-of-mouth alone. The rules were simple – don’t talk about Hat-Club and don’t forget your hat. Now three years on, Hat-Club’s rules are as simple as ever but the parties and its crowds have become unique in clubland. It has defined a new way of clubbing with the help of its loyal following who create the party’s electric atmosphere. At the end of the day, it always comes down to their two common traits; a passion for quality house music and a desire for funky head gear.

arl Cox has issued a statement after a horrific shooting incident on Saturday night at the Red Noise club in Caracas, Venezuela.
Cox was 45 minutes into his set when multiple gunmen opened fire on the 7000-strong crowd. 4 people have been confirmed dead, and 9 injured.
Carl says:
“I am deeply shocked and still stunned by the events of Saturday. My condolences go out to victims that were caught up in the horrific act that took place at this gig, and also their families. I am informed that it was gang related, and feel so sad that anybody would act in such a manner when the event was full of 7000 people having fun. I find it such a sad moment in electronic music as this was probably one of the best set up shows I had played in South America – a sign of real progress yet utterly hijacked by this mindless act. Again, my heart goes out to those that have died or been injured. This is NOT what the dance scene is about and is a million miles away from what I want to do or promote.”

Against Home Office guidelines, over 2,600 people, nearly all of them asylum seekers, are locked up in detention camps and prisons in Britain without trial, without time limit and with no automatic right to bail. This includes pregnant women, children, victims of torture and those suffering from mental health problems, all of whom are systematically denied access to adequate medical attention and legal advice.
The SOAS Detainee Support Group seeks to empower individuals and families in detention. Through regular visitation, they aim to provide emotional and practical support, including linking detainees with medical and legal professionals and providing resourses for people to set up their own campaigns. They also help to supply basic necessities such as nappies for babies and toiletries, which detainees are often unable to access.

V ROCK vs Dukes of Windsor “The Others”, has been getting ecstatic reactions from partygoers for some time now, and is approaching anthem status. When it was brought over to the British Isles from our cousins in Australia, where it has enjoyed massive club and commercial success, it was immediately picked up by the big guns on specialist radio. Plays from Pete Tong, Eddie Halliwell, Chris Lake (on his BBCR1 Essential Mix), Sarah Main (on Galaxy FM), and Huggy (on XFM), have built demand massively.

The birth of Clandestino back in November 2002 was a momentous day. Single-handedly grabbing Sunday night by the scruff of the neck and giving it an almighty wallop, The End & AKA became the place to end your weekends.
Five years on and the night still attracts a vast and varied crowd. But they all share a few common traits, they know how to cause mischief, they look fantastic and most of all they know good music. The Clandestino soundtrack has evolved over the years, but has always remained one step ahead of the game, never less than cutting edge, with seductive house and techno the order of the day in 2007.
For the birthday party all the stops have been pulled out, with an extra room of decadence added just for good measure. Headlining the main room is Loco Dice, an undisputed member of the techno elite, and one of the most exciting figures in dance music right now. As well as regularly making appearances on wax for the likes of Minus and Ovum, he is a fully fledged member of the Cocoon family, releasing music through the label and having just completed a Summer residency for Sven Vath’s powerhouse label at Amnesia in Ibiza. His DJ sets are nothing short of electric, and no less should be expected when he steps back into the main room. Joining Dice in the main room will be promoter and resident DJ Miss Jools, a legend on the scene and behind the decks.
