If you weren’t around in the early 90’s it doesn’t matter… I’m pretty sure every house music lover across the globe has a special place in his or her heart for Degrees Of Motion. Well folks, Degrees Of Motion are back from a 12-year break, this time on Cayenne Recordings, the label with more funk than an eternity with James Brown!
Brand new 2007 remixes come from Smax & Gold who turn in an electro-funk tinged hot stepper and Mischa Daniels who progs it out a touch but keeps it funky. Haji & Emanuel’s epic 2006 remix is also included as it still sounds fresh and does the dancefloor damage every time. Hell there is even dubs-a-plenty.

If 2006 was the year that Sander van Doorn started making waves on the international dance scene, 2007 is going to be the year he nails it. In just three short years, this golden child with his ‘boy next door’ looks from Eindhoven, Holland has had the world literally at his feet. 2006 was a phenomenal year for Sander; a year that saw him accomplish things only dreams are made of with appearances for Radio 1 live from Ibiza, remixing (unofficially) band of the decade The Artic Monkeys When the Sun Goes Down and entering the world famous DJ Mag Top 100 at an impressive no.32, Sander now drops the excellent By Any Demand feat. Mc Pryme onto leading UK dance imprint Nebula Music.

September 10 2007 sees the release of ‘Damage’, the eagerly-anticipated third album from million-selling Bristol trio Kosheen. ‘Damage’ is the band’s biggest and most beautiful record to date, referencing both the electronica of the UK platinum debut ‘Resist’ and the creativity and darkness of Top 10 sophomore release, ‘Kokopelli’.
The Kosheen sound has always been about integrating electronica with great song structures, and, locked down in the studio recording ‘Damage’, the band has created a subtly futuristic soundtrack for the 21st century. From the spacious titular track itself to the pop-driven forthcoming single ‘Overkill’ (about, says Sian, “personal or political frustration”); from the early 80s synth-stabbed ‘Chances’ to the epic hum of ‘Under Fire’, hefty beats jostle with acidic bleeps, Morricone guitars, plangent synths and haunting piano. Look out, too, for the rather swaggering majesty of closing track, ‘Your Life,’ which, says Markee, “grew from its opening chords – it stinks of flava!”

Since 2001, secretsundaze has been at the forefront of the UK underground scene and set the standard for Sunday daytime parties. They were one of the first UK promoters to book international acts including Steve Bug, Luciano, Guido Schneider, Matthias Tanzmann and Dan Ghenacia, as well as hosting more established artists including Carl Craig and Ricardo Villalobos - booking them into (sometimes illegal) venues, not usually the norm for such events.
Six years since its inception and after hosting summer parties in London, one-off specials in Ibiza, parties at Sonar (Barcelona) and Snowbombing (Austria), hosting tents at various UK festivals, winning ‘Best Club’ awards in Mixmag and Time Out (UK) - as well as being immortalized in a song (Ali Love’s ‘Secret Sunday Lover’ on Columbia records) - secretsundaze releases its first compilation: ’secretsundaze Volume 1′ mixed by its residents and promoters Giles Smith and James Priestley.
‘Secretsundaze Volume 1′ represents the sound of the party since the start, with both mixes encompassing a musical selection that will not only take you back but also bring you forward: from dub to disco (Italo style), ‘proper’ house classics, straight-up rave, to the best in current underground house music.. Take a trip.

Breakbeat gurus Aquasky AKA Bournemouth-based production trio Dave Wallace, Brent Newitt and Keiron Bailey drop their first single in over 12 months and not ones to do things by halves, they’ve roped in leading Florida MC Acafool on vocals to provide us with what could potentially be THE summer anthem of 2007, the booty-tastic ‘Have A Good Time’ that forms the second 12” to be released from Passenger Records forthcoming mix album ‘This Way Up’, featuring 14 brand new and un-released tracks commissioned especially for this album and to be drum n bass legend Friction’s debut in the world of breakbeat!
Aquasky first made their name as one of the most prolific production duos in the world of drum n bass. Their work throughout the 90s on labels such as Moving Shadow, R&S and Polydor helped shaped the sound of jazzy, atmospheric drum n bass. Having first got into the sound of ‘nu-skool’ breaks in the late 90s with seminal releases on Botchit & Scarper, the trio decided to fully get involved and single headedly spear-headed the ‘bassline’ breaks sound (i.e. tear-out drum n bass sounding like it is played at 33 RPM) the trio have since gone onto conquer this scene and through their productions, LPs and label: Passenger Records. Having been nominated for no less than 7 awards at this years Breakspoll Awards, both Aquasky and Passenger Records are truly at the forefront of this scene.

Underwater Records is proud to present the second instalment of their solo series with the prodigious Yousef. This 2 CD album is set for release on the 22nd October 2007 and is a one-take studio mix of a 3 hour set that is a true reflection of Yousef’s diverse talents.
Yousef is a name synonymous with slick, jackin’ sleazy beats, edged with an aggressive boundless technical ability. However, Yousef shows how he now crafts a 3 hour set… how his musical direction has grown. “I wanted to show my musical spectrum, enjoying and including deep house, electronica, techno, rave and all stops in between with a sprinkling of vocals and my own productions” says Yousef. It is a lot more electronic than past compilations, with less funk and more drive, more depth and musical content while maintaining a raw energy that you can only really achieve with a live set.
The first thing that impresses is Yousef’s track selection. Many have been chosen because they have been big for him this year. Among his tested tracks are beauties from DK7, Trentemoller, Layo & Bushwacka and Mathew Dekay. They are all part of Yousef’s sets at Space this summer and with his perfect programming, he has been setting dancefloors ablaze.

Hiddenform is a Melbourne, Australia, based label that after one vinyl release and one mix CD, has stood out in a crowded marketplace by supplying music with a hidden subtext. In 2006 they released Hiddenform001, mixed by Danny Bonnici and Luke Chable, to great critical acclaim, making it into the end of year Top 10 Compilations charts. Label boss, Dimitri Frost has now moved Hiddenform’s management to Stomp/EQ, and they’ll be looking after the manufacturing and distribution of the label moving forward.
Danny Bonnici is one third of Australian breakbeat powerhouse Nubreed, and the mastermind behind numerous solo productions. His work with Nubreed extends to reworking Crystal Method, Scritti Politti, Apex, Tiesto and Junkie XL.
Danny’s recent collaborations have included works with Andy Page on the tech house and breaks hybrid “AB/DP EP” on EQ Grey, and with Melbourne lad Dan Mangan – ‘F**K Dude’ on Dave Seaman’s Audiotherapy Sping/Summer 07 Sampler. Break Da House garnered the attention of Global Underground, prompting Hiddenform to snap up this genre bending house bomb that boasts just about every one of Danny’s production tricks and techniques.
On the flip are two intelligent broken bombs that for the Breaks and IDM enthusiasts. Not many so called ‘glitched out’ tracks can lay claim to having any glitch-a-bility factor at all; Freejacked sets things straight. Not content, Danny re-addresses Freejacked giving it a melodic focus, and delivers Freeride.
