Unique 3 will always be a name synonymous with the musical acorn from which the Great Oak of Dance music emerged all those years ago; alongside scene stalwarts such as Warp Records, The Chemical Brothers and Photek.
The life of Unique 3, Edzy to his pals, has been one hell of a roller-coaster ride since he first inked a rather large £150,000 deal with Virgin Records back in 1989 for his proto-Dance classic The Theme.
Before you is the culmination of nearly twenty years work; His new album – ‘Invasive Signals’. A document of life since that point and, more importantly to Unique 3 a tool to banish the last of the demons clouding his vision since that initial thrust into the music industry limelight.

Changes are afoot at Olmeto. Layo & Bushwacka!’s superb monthly party is The End’s flagship Saturday night, and throughout 2007, Olmeto has set aside AKA for the sumptuous sounds of Will Saul and his label Simple Records. However, from September onwards, we mix things up with Will and guests taking care of The End’s lounge, whilst Layo & Bushwacka! continue to flex their muscles in the main room. Into AKA goes Freerange, a label much loved by both the Olmeto and Simple chiefs. Freerange head honcho Jimpster will be bringing his label’s deep and melodic sounds, plus specially selected guests, to AKA each and every month.
After a month bedding into the new format, October’s Olmeto takes on special significance with the night acting as a vehicle to launch not one, but two major albums. First up in the main room, Layo & Bushwacka! will be marking the release of their first mix album in nearly four years. Global Underground - champions of the mix album format with a back catalogue that reads like a DJ Allstars list - have bestowed the honour of mixing the latest instalment, ‘Global Underound Rio’, upon the pair. As with all GU albums, it’s a two-disc affair, and as with their last mix album ‘All Night Long’, the boys wanted to represent both the old and the new. CD1 represents the finest music of the past 20 years with many personal favourites from the likes of Ellis D, Francois K and Lil’ Louis, whilst CD2 covers the very best of their current sets, taking in tracks from cutting edge talent such as Phonique, Tiga, Guy Gerber and Henrik Schwartz. Joining Layo & Bushwacka! in the main room is one of Germany’s most exciting new talents, Daso, who will be performing one of his wild live shows.

Recent headliners have been included the cream of cutting-edge international DJs who play Europe’s hippest and most influential venues. October’s feast ups the anti yet again, as one of London’s hottest producers; and king the fidgety-electro house sound, Dj Touché takes control.

Toolroom Knights return with the next instalment of their DJ-led mix albums. Reflecting the underground sound of the label, this time round mixing duties have been bestowed upon producer/DJ duo Gabriel & Dresden, who prove here why fans and critics have hailed them as the future sound of electronic music. Voted ‘Best American DJ’ at this year’s Winter Music Conference International Dance Music Award (IDMA), an already amazing year for the pair is now capped off in fine style with the unveiling of Toolroom Knights, Volume 2.
Exploring a more organic and textural musical landscape on this double disc collection, G&D adeptly blend sounds from indie rock band Junior Boys to Claude Von Stroke, Apparat, and The Knife. This collection brings the debut of Gabriel & Dresden’s popular remix of the Killers “Read My Mind,” and includes exclusive tracks such as Gabriel & Dresden’s re-interpretation of label boss Mark Knight’s (with D. Ramirez) “Columbian Soul,” their remix of Monochrome “Pearl,” and Shlomi Aber & Itamar Sagi’s “Blonda.” Unreleased Josh Gabriel tracks “Summit” and “Crosstalk” gives a peak into the solo records he’s quietly making.

Soulwax return with a compendium of their genre defining and dancefloor destroying reworkings of other peoples songs on Parlophone on 22/10/07. Here you will find (and this is also the full title of the album)…
“Most Of the remixes we’ve made over the years except for the one for Einsturzende Neubauten because we lost it and a few we didn’t think sounded good enough or just didn’t fit in length-wise. But including some that are hard to find because either people forgot about them or just simply because they haven’t been released yet. A few we really love. One we think is just OK. Some we did for free. Some we did for money. Some just for ourselves without permission and some for friends as swaps but never on time and always at our studio in Ghent.”

Jimmy Van M is back after the successful release of ‘Balance 10’ with a follow-up mix compilation in the acclaimed series from Australia. After his epic 3CD effort that journeyed its way through a wide spectrum of genres and styles, this time, Jimmy increases the energy of the previous release providing a peak-time mix of tunes from his favourite producers and a snapshot of what you might hear on the dance-floor at one of his gigs across the globe.
The mix starts off in style with an ambient intro written exclusively for this CD by Russian artists Moonbeam, setting the mood in preparation for a journey through deep and haunting sounds, which is highlighted by the Radioslave remix of Unkle’s – ‘Burn My Shadow’. From here everything starts to take shape with more energy and atmosphere once Stephen Bodzin’s neo-trancer ‘Cucuma’ bursts into the mix. Other highlights on the disc include Smith & Selway’s driving remix of Mauro Picotto and the stunning Moonbeam remix of Steve T ‘There were Lights’, all transpiring into a selection of music that will appeal to all fans of upfront club music mixed to perfection by a DJ who’s programming and taste in music has always been an inspiration.

Layo & Bushwacka!’s love affair with music started as teenagers at the dawn of acid house; it’s led both of them through techno, breakbeat, electro, dub, electronica, and any other pigeonhole that’s been thrown up in its wake. Emerging blinking into the light almost two decades later with a sound that fuses all their influences, they’ve maintained their position at the head of the pack. It’s the same outlaw spirit of eclecticism that still informs their five hour DJ sets, whether at their spiritual home The End in London, a beach in Brazil (the inspiration for this album), or a superclub in Ibiza or Argentina. It’s this spirit that turned the limited edition 12” ‘Untitled’ into a global anthem, becoming ‘Love Story’, and crashing into the charts worldwide in 2003, including the UK Top 10.
Layo and Bushwacka! have come a long way from the teenager who frequented Clink Street’s acid parties and the kid who dropped classical music for the hardcore scene. Together they took the emergent strains of techno, tech-house, electro and breakbeat and welded them onto blues, classical and film soundtracks of the last hundred years, creating the dance floor sound for our new century. The first decade of the new millennium has seen global club culture stretch its tentacles ever further. The rising epicentres of clubbing are no longer restricted to those affluent, Western nations of old, some of the brightest beacons are to be found in the new world. Rio is one such city.

Swedish electronic duo Plej (pronounced ‘play’) are back this October (out October 8th) with their new single ‘Safe Place’, taken from their highly anticipated second album which is set for release in early 2008 on Exceptional Records.
The new album was written and produced by siblings Arvid and Erik Niklasson and mixed by fellow Swede Hird (‘Keep you hird’, ‘Moving On’ ) who also produced The Knife’s ‘Silent Shout’ and the currently hotter than hot Studio’s ‘West Coast’ album. Reluctant to give too much away Arvid describes the new album as an organic progression from their debut album which maintains Plej’s distinctive style whilst adding more live instrumentation.
