Put together by UK independent label Freshly Squeezed Music, the Eclectrik compilation is the soundtrack to a dirty weekend in a decadent boutique hotel by the sea!
It offers a taste of the Brighton label’s genre-busting mix of “future cult classics” (The Independent). From The Lovers’ Jarvis Cocker penned ‘La Degustation’, through the late-night electro of Product.01 (whose ‘Hot Trap’ – included here - went top ten on MTV Dance) to the organic ska meets breakbeat of The Voodoo Trombone Quartet (whose previous single almost blew their cult credentials by skimming the edges of the official UK download charts) - the compilation aims to define the sound and ethos of the label by bringing together releases past, present and future. It even includes a few that ‘got away’. (Snatched by jealous rivals!)

‘Through The Pain (She Told Me)’ is the dazzling new single from P Diddy, featuring the soul-filled vocals of Mario Winans, set for release on August 20th and 27th - digital and physical respectively. Taken from the Bad Boy/Atlantic Records, UK Double Gold-certified album PRESS PLAY, the commercial single will also contain the blazin’ hot ‘P Diddy Rock’ track. Featuring super-producer Timbaland, Atlantic label-mate Twista and Shawnna, this additional track mixes deep house cheekiness with a Hip-Hop sensibility, creating a vibe that transcends both.
‘Through The Pain (She Told Me)’ has already been added to the Galaxy Network and to the B-list at Radio 1Xtra. If anyone knows how to get a party started, it’s P Diddy. Good Hip Hop producers create hot beats, beats you can dance to, rhyme over and remember. Great Hip Hop producers however create a sound. They have a point of view.

One’s a D&B don and founder of RAM Records, the other’s a professional snowboarder and formidable DJ with a world record under his belt (for the world’s highest DJ gig). Not the usual CVs you’d expect for breaks producers but Shimon & Nixon are proving themselves a force to be reckoned with, and they are only on their second full release.
The duo’s latest offering on the ever-busy Finger Lickin’ Records, is a two-track treat set to turn heads, torsos and toes of all breaks fans. The burbling bass of ‘Around The Edge’ is destined for sun-soaked dancefloors and homegrown festival tents alike. Shimon’s junglist influences are evident, as minimal keys sit atop warped synths and atmospheric vocals. ‘Whitenoise’ is a more instant club banger, taking a trip to the darker reaches. The omnipotent bassline pulsates its way into your brain and builds to a powerful breakdown, which grabs you by the jugular. Awesome.

There are very few DJs equipped with the skills, the endurance and the mettle to perform for eight hours straight. DJing for such a long time demands the artistry of a guitarist, the endurance of a marathon runner and the concentration of a chess master; though I don’t recall ever seeing a guitarist, a runner or a chess master doing their thing for eight hours straight! So it’s fair to say that Danny Howells is due a little credit for the feat he regularly undertakes in The End’s main room, an extraordinary eight hour whirlwind of music and fun you’d be hard pushed to better at any other club night the world over.
Danny won’t be the first to do an all night stint in The End’s main room, but, as with everything he does, it’ll be in his own inimitable style. One thing you could never accuse Howells of being is a bandwagon jumper; musically he sticks to his guns, never one to blindly follow the latest fad, Danny knows his music and knows how to rock a crowd. His sets draw from all facets of dance music, often starting with something a little ambient and down tempo, sliding effortlessly into a bit of deep and techy house, then perhaps a little prog, then into some techno before bringing the curtain down with some classics and maybe something a little experimental. There’s music for all electronic music lovers; there’s bits you know, bits you don’t, things you love, things you used to love, things you’ll learn to love – it’s not called Dig Deeper for nothing!
