King Roc - Interview

Hi Martin, how you doing today?

I’m good thanks. A little hot from running around London but apart from that, all good.

It has been a crazy year for you so far, have any particular moments stood out?

Trip to Brazil was pretty amazing. Rio and Sao Paulo are very cool cities. I am hoping to go back in November which would be great because there are a lot of great parties there that I would love to check out plus a bit more sight seeing never hurts.

What is your biggest achievement so far?

Well I don’t know about most producers but not having to get a normal job is a pretty great achievement I think.

Tell us something interesting about yourself that not many people would know?

I was in Alien in the film ‘Hitch Hikers Guide To The Galaxy’. I spent most of one summer a couple of years ago running around in a very heavy suit made of metal, foam and rubber. Hot work!

Yellow Magic Orchestra Reunite for Live Earth

Some groups do it for money, some groups do it when solo careers don’t pan out, and some do it because they can finally sit in the same room again. Other groups do it for a great cause. In this case original Yellow Magic Orchestra (YMO) members Haruomi Hosono, Yukihiro Takahashi, and Ryuichi Sakamoto have re-formed to help the Live Earth cause with a special performance from Kyoto, Japan on 7.7.07.

Live Earth Founder and Producer Kevin Wall joined with Tatsu Kitagawa, the principal of the Live Earth Japan office, at a press conference to announce the special Yellow Magic Orchestra reunion and complete artist lineup and ticketing information for Live Earth Japan. Wall announced that Japan is the only country hosting two events as part of the 24-hour, 7-continent Live Earth concert series to combat global warming. Makuhari Messe in Tokyo will host a daylong Live Earth Tokyo concert. A special broadcast event will be held at the To-ji Buddhist Temple in Kyoto later in the day.

NF Project ft Meighan Nealon - Picture

Meighan Nealon started her career as a dancer on the popular Canadian TV show Electric Circus on MuchMusic. She was always an avid singer and performer from early on but never took the singing aspect of her career seriously. During her time at Electric Circus she was introduced to Hip Hop producer Adrian Gariba. Adrian at the time was working on a hip hop project based in NY. He offered to feature Meighan on one of the songs and took a trip to NY to show her the progress of that project.

In NY Meighan was shown the larger aspect of the music industry while recording at the famous Quad Studios. Upon returning to Toronto she became more and more interested in pursuing a solo career but was unable to find her sound in the Hip Hop. Meighan decided to do the unthinkable and packed her bags and moved to Asia. Initially, she moved to Taiwan to study Mandarin Chinese. The culture shock and media in Taiwan was perhaps the defining moment and inspiration taking her back to music and finding her sound. While in Taiwan, she co-wrote (what would be her first song) “just like this” with Adrian.

Mr C celebrates twenty years behind the decks

What were you doing twenty years ago? Chances were it didn’t involve Technics 1210’s, stacks of vinyl, fronting a controversial band and producing acid house? Unless your name is Mr C, that is.

On Saturday June 30th the ex-Shamen frontman, The End co-founder, producer and DJ Mr C celebrates twenty years behind the decks with a great big knees-up at The End & AKA. He’ll be joined in the main room by very special guest Luciano, Get Physical’s DJ T and the delicious Dollz at Play.

Mr C started off life as Chelsea Boy the aspiring rapper by night and milkman by day – the raver’s job of choice due its unconventional working hours. Soon ditching his Chelsea Boy moniker and opting for the much easier to rhyme Mr C, he released his first record in 1987 under the name Myster-E, and began DJing at acid house parties around London, including the infamous Clink St parties near London Bridge.

Gatecrasher Collapses In Massive Fire

NEWS SOURCE - BBC NEWS

200706182252

Emergency crews were called to the Gatecrasher One nightclub - formerly The Republic - in Eyre Street, Sheffield, on Monday evening.

Two people were believed to be inside the building when the blaze took hold but escaped the premises unharmed after calling 999.

The Arundel Street end of the two-storey building later collapsed, narrowly missing firefighters.

South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service said five crews - about 25 firefighters - were at the scene tackling the blaze at its height.

Eyewitnesses said plumes of smoke gradually spread across the city centre and turned from a dark grey colour to thick white to yellow cloud.

Sheffield city centre resident Kirsten Law said: “I was on the phone when I first noticed it and thought the whole development was on fire.

“I’ve had to go around closing all the windows because the smell of the smoke’s so strong and have been watching the charred bits fly past the window, and I’m on the other side of town from Gatecrasher.”
