Adam Freeland - Mexico City - GU 32

Featuring tracks and remixes from Gui Boratto, 120 Days, Spacemen 3, James Holden, Super Discount, Mr Oizo, Justice, Fujiya & Miyagi, Para One, Andrew Weatherall, and many more…

If you’re expecting an out and out breaks mix, then look away now…

Adam Freeland is at the forefront of a new sound, drone step, a genre that is growing rapidly across the US, UK, and Europe, and that’s roughly characterised as tripped out rock music with a dancefloor attitude (eg. swirling walls of hypnotic guitar beefed up with club beats). To some it’s akin to shoegazing on ecstasy, owing as much to the likes of My Bloody Valentine, Ecstasy Of Saint Theresa and Slowdive, as it does the chemically induced tones of current Noughties electronica.

D:Fuse & Hiratzka - Skyline Lounge

D:Fuse and Mike Hiratzka team up to bring you Skyline Lounge – the first release on their new Lost Angeles Recordings label. A combination of smooth electronic pop, gentle house music and downtempo rhythms, Skyline Lounge is a song-based album that transcends the transient nature of most club music.

Skyline Lounge is a project that came about with D:Fuse and Hiratzka’s desire to get out from under the strict confines of dance tracks and to move into more traditional song writing and production. In fact, a big part of D:Fuse’s recent move from Texas to Los Angeles was to completely immerse himself in the writing process with partner Mike Hiratzka. Before the move, the music making process was forced to be quick and over a set number of days. With more time to conceive and create, D:Fuse and Hiratzka relaxed with the music and left ample room to see the ideas flesh out.

“When we started writing the album we didn’t put terms on anything. We just wrote and performed what sounded good to us; whether that be virtual synths or live instrumentation via drums, guitar, bass, or vocals. After a few songs we realized everything had a cohesive feel. To us it felt like a city rooftop at night. The energy of the city combined with the beauty of a skyline. That’s where Skyline Lounge and the subsequent cover concept came from. We literally spent an entire day hauling vintage gear and living room furniture up flights of stairs to a rooftop in Midtown LA to get the shot,” D:Fuse says.

Calvin Harris - New single - show at neighbourhood

Described as “The next globe crushing chart dance overlord” (ID Magazine) and “the slickest nu-disco we’ve heard in ages.”( IDJ Magazine); 2007 is Calvin Harris’ year. Just 23 years old and hailing from Dumfries, this young Scot has made a fast track rise from Marks & Spencers’ champion shelf-stacker to the dance pioneer on everyone’s lips within one year.

Since the release of debut single Acceptable In The 80s, Calvin has developed an impressive reputation and fan base, (both Mark Ronson & Groove Amada are noted fans) and has been propelled straight to the Top 10 of the charts.

Calvin Harris’s debut album, with the subtle title ‘I Created Disco’, cost nothing to record. He fashions future-disko using a battered old Amiga computer in his home studio. Not just one of those ‘myspace sensations’ you keep reading about. He is wildly popular amongst The Kids and on The Club Scene, a cult producer-slash-singer-slash-bedroom-knob-twiddler who can make the banging-est of electro dance tunes out of bugger-all kit. Writer, producer and visionary behind his own label FlyEye, Calvin is destined to define the sound of the summer. As Calvin explains: “Disco disappeared, didn’t it? Everyone got sick of it. Now I’m reviving it, with space goggles, or something.”

Plastic Little - Crambodia - Video

Plazdick Liddel, Plastik Lital, Crapstick Shittle, Plizzy, or quite plainly Plastic Little is a hip-hop group from Philadelphia that formed in the summer of 2001 right before the Bush Regime knocked down the Twin Towers and blamed it on Al Queda in order to severely restrict the civil liberties of US citizens and turn the Arab world up over on its head like a fucked up dreidel. Woah. This is the press release right? So yeah, Plastic Little started out in the summer of 2001 as a duo of Kurt Hunte and Jayson Scott Musson. Jon Folmar and super producer Michael “SQUID” Stern entered the Plastic Little roster in like, uhm, like in late 2002.

With this line up Plastic Little has taken the DIY aesthetic and pretty much bumrushed the music scenes along the east coast of the US. Due in dual parts to the quality of the music Plastic Little makes coupled with a sense of humour in their music that has been lost in hip-hop in like forever, Plastic Little quickly surpassed many local Philly rap acts in notoriety because simply put, Plastic Little is some dope ass, funny ass shit. But it’s not just the humour that sells Plastic Little, there is a biting critique of society at large and an acerbic wit and intelligence that comes with their brand of party music.
