Armand Van Helden - NYC Beat - Video

Armand Van Helden returns to conquer. NYC Beat is destined for big things.

One of dance music’s biggest personalities with a discography of hits and dance anthems to match, Armand knows the ingredients to rock the dancefloor better than anyone else around.

NYC Beat is a dancefloor slayer with one foot in the past and another on the dancefloors of now. With a monstrous bottom end and a vocal sample that is guaranteed to get lodged in your head, it sports a fine array of remixes from MSTRKRFT, Emperor Machine and Detroit.

The video features apple bobbing and model Daisy Lowe, daughter of Pearl Lowe and Gavin Rossdale

NYC Beat is already getting hammered on Radio 1 and was added straight to the playlist a month before release. It’s taken from Ghettoblaster, his new artist album.

An incendiary call to arms, Ghettoblaster, from the unambiguous title to the thrilling sounds contained therein, is an unapologetic throwback to dance music’s joyous infancy.

Indeed, as Armand puts it: “On this album I was going for a retro throwback 1985-89 soul up-tempo urban type sound. Chicago meets Miami meets New York City kind of thing. Or to put it differently, house meets freestyle meets hip-house meets club meets new wave.”

The Mischief Of Cloud 6

Less is more right? Wrong. In the case of Pepe Deluxé at least, more is most certainly more. ‘The Mischief Of Cloud 6’, is the second single from the forthcoming album ‘Spare Time Machine’ and Pepe Deluxe have added a bit more of everything into the pot and all for the better. More sweet hip-hop beats, more psychedelic guitar crescendos, more of the same offbeat lyrics, retro vocals and more influences from around the world than you can shake a pocket atlas at. In contrast it also has less too. Less samples. Or to be exact, none.

Pepe Deluxé are two: James Spectrum (AKA Jari Salo) and JA-Jazz (AKA Tomi Paajaanen). These Finnish scholars of sonics formed in the Mid- ’90s. Probably best known for their outstanding use of samples as heard on their most familiar song ‘Woman In Blue’, which was used on the Levi’s Jeans ‘Twisted’ commercial and taken from their debut album ‘Supersound’ in ’98.’Supersound’ was so notoriously sample-laden that three versions were eventually created, each ‘cleaner’ than the last as it grew in stature and was licensed to Sony. Now ‘Spare Time Machine’ has arrived their third album, taking things up yet another level. It has all the funk of their best material but doused in the spirit of uproarious ‘60s psychedelia and ‘70s prog-rock. What’s more it’s entirely sample-free.

Marco V - Combi : Nations:III

It’s quite difficult to know where to start with this press release. We worked the last Marco V compilation and used words such as ‘purist’, ‘maestro’, and ‘master’. After only hearing 3 tracks of one CD, we were looking for words, and there are none! This piece of work from Marco is his best yet, as you will see and hear for yourselves.

The two discs are aptly entitled ‘Before’ and ‘After’ and Marco’s own description says it all: “Imagine going to an outdoor festival, dancing all day and then going home for a chill out, that’s what it’s about” perfectly summed up to a V. BEFORE sees Marco at full throttle, and for a full on 80mins. You’re down the front, the V man is in front of you, and he’s giving you a dose of Marco V in peak time festival mode! A perfect blend of throbbing electronic music, mixed down impeccably. The BEFORE CD contains two brand new Marco V cuts, a smattering of exclusives, combined with productions and mixes from the likes of Starkillers, Mashtronic and Patrick Alavi.

Digitalism - Pogo

If Franz Ferdinand are doing rock music that make people dance, Digitalism are making dance music that make people rock.

There are loads of rock bands making music for the dancefloor. Digitalism make electronic music that everyone can rock to. For the past two years, they have been the go-to men for indie remixes, having reworked the Klaxons, The Test Icicles, Cut Copy and The Futureheads, to devastating effect.

Digitalism hail from Hamburg. Isi, the German born son of Turkish immigrants, met Jens, the child of a liberal family, at the city’s Underground Solution record store. Jens Moelle was the first to find employment there, towards the end of the 1990s. When he took leave from the shop to devote more time to his school work, Isi filled. Later Jens returned, and the pair worked alongside each other: Jens in the shop, and Isi at the attendant record distribution business. They soon bonded over their shared love of dance and rock records.

Kevin Saunderson - The Detroit Connection

The Ekspozicija 07: The Detroit Connection mix by Detroit legend Kevin Saunderson radiates all the energy that he has accumulated during his two-decade career as a DJ and producer.

It’s the essence of club culture captured in a 78-minute journey through the universe of synthesised sounds, the latest dance rhythms, and echoes of music history. It’s a mark of Kevin’s love of music and massive DJing experience that he has never drawn a strict line between the various sub-genres of electronic dance music – which is evident from the first listen of his new mix compilation.

This attitude can only be positive, considering that we are talking about a 78-minute trip through the most upfront club sounds. It’s a mix that takes the listener from climax to climax, it grabs and releases, then goes off in another direction – a head-spinning rollercoaster of emotions, energy and ecstasy that no-one but a musician with as much experience as Mr Saunderson could deliver.
