Chakras - From Brazil to Berlin

200611092031

Chakras is a unique and experimental space of creation and artistic energies in Sao Paulo, Brazil ? a restaurant, art gallery, lounge, club and now purveyor of sublime mixes; it brings you the second musical outing following on from 2005?s ?From Brazil to Ibiza?.

Brazil has been put on the map of late with its clubs being named the best in the world, world famous DJs naming tracks after said clubs and the emergence of exciting DJs from across the whole of South America.

This double cd promotes a harmony between what you can expect to hear at Chakras (and indeed across Brazil) with the undeniable cutting edge sounds that continue to come out Germany. In Chakras tradition the first mix is by head honcho Miguel Reis. It?s perfect for a day setting while CD 2 (by German DJs Chris Wood and Toni Rios) is composed very much with the night in mind.

Chris Wood From Brazil to Berlin Interview

200611092037

Tell us about your mix for ?From Brazil to Berlin?. What tracks did you include and why? What mood did you want to create with this mix?

We wanted to create a special mood, which fits in the concept of chakras. the sound on the cd is a bit deeper and calmer than ower dj-sets at the clubs, because we wanted to have a better reference to the first cd of miguel, that the listeners have a nice changeover.

Was it an interesting project to work on and how did you get involved in it?

I got involved in this project, because I know miguel for a long time. years ago we stayed together in london for a while. the project was interesting because we had to create a cd which reflects the sound of toni and me , and simultaneously it has to fit into the concept of chakras.

Was it fun working with Miguel and Toni? And do you know Toni quite well considering you are both prolific DJs on the German scene?

Yes it was quite fun. I know toni for a long time, we played together at partys and in clubs. my first remix was released on his label danza electronica.

Will you be doing any special ?From Brazil to Berlin? gigs?

I think there are two gigs planed for september. one in rom and the other in ibiza.

What do you know about Chakras in Brazil have you ever been?

I know a lot about it, because I have been at this wonderful place twice !

What else are you up to at the moment? Any exciting projects?

I`m working a lot at the studio at the moment to get my next release on level non zero records finished. also I`m spinning every weekend?.

Miguel Reis aka Djourney ?From Brazil to Berlin? Interview

200611092034

You?re the boss of Chakras, what?s it like running such a varied and fun operation?
It is very hectic but it is lots of fun to work with so many different activities. Chakras has one of the best Brazilian contemporary restaurants, it has an important art gallery (IQ), a lounge-dorming restaurant (La Suite) where you can listen to the best Djs and enjoy tasting menus served on silver plates in lavish beds. We have so many different cultural activities?cinema, theatre, live model drawing lessons, and every year we release a new CD that mixes the Brazilian Culture with another. Me and Fabiana, my wife, have our hands full. Working on the strategy for art, cd, press, music, djs, gastronomy, cinema, theatre, courses, events, decoration, working methods, promotion etc, but we have assistants/coordinators working with us responsible for the implementation of these ideas, strategies and working methods. The only way to be successful is to have people that understand the concept and philosophy that we pass on to them.

What did you want to convey in your mix for ?From Brazil to Berlin??
We tried to convey a cultural bridge between these 2 cultures and bring the Brazilian and International rhythms and soul on the CD Dia mixed together with the most contemporary German electro house from Chris and Toni on the CD Noite.

What artists did you use and why?
My production was to develop a journey of music from Brazil to other parts of the World bringing the best and best balanced music I could possibly mix together. All the artists were important for the production of the cd, but I can name a few?Gothan Project, the Nicola Conte crew (S-Tone Inc. Rozalia de Souza and Dinning Rooms), Grasskirt and Frontera (both have been releasing wonderful tracks for a while) and also Booka Shade.

Was it fun working with Chris Wood and Toni Rios? Why did you pick them to mix the second CD?

It was great working with both, although without technology this cd would have be impossible! As we have all been very busy this year? The artists I have chosen to mix the cd noite on the Chakras from Brazil to Berlin were Toni Rios because he is one of the godfathers of the German electronic scene and Chris Wood who is one of the young promises of the new German scene!

Will you be doing any special ?From Brazil to Berlin? gigs?
We are doing release parties in Brazil in November, in Germany and Italy in January. More details to follow soon!

What else is Chakras up to at the moment? Any exciting projects coming up?
We are doing a truffles festival with a Michelin star chef, a new exhibition at our IQ art galley inside Chakras in December with Picassos, Dalis, and Volpes, amongst other great ones, we are doing the release party of the cd at the end of November. Plus we are developing a new project! A Boutique hotel, restaurant and bar, spa, art gallery and lounge… Of course with the best service anyone can ask for! I still cannot tell you where it will be, what I can tell you right now is that it will be in a European Capital!!!
