Deeper Substance - A Label To Watch In 2007….

What does dance music mean to you? If it means commercial drivel, high-street clubbing, and chav house then kindly look away now. If, however, you?re partial to something a little more cerebral, then meet OrtzRoka?s stunning new production, ?T2?, another electronic broadside on Deeper Substance Records, one of the hottest young imprints on the block.

Half the pleasure of electronica is finding real gems, music you stumble across at derelict warehouses at 7am on a Saturday morning while trying to navigate your way home. That?s where you?ll find the Deeper Substance crew, a record label and group of like-minded individuals that?s fast becoming a byword for quality, dancefloor fare. New Years Eve at The End - Layo & Bushwacka! and the Unabombers

New Years Eve - the end of twelve months of night-time shenanigans and the start of another. Looking back over the year with a slightly hazy memory, we?ve had some fantastic guests grace the decks of The End & AKA and some parties that we never wanted to finish. Some of the best nights of the year, however, have been with our very own kings of the blue DJ booth Layo and Bushwacka! at their monthly Olmeto parties. It seemed only fitting, therefore, that the deadly duo should welcome in 2007 with another of their legendary all night long performances.

Layo and Bushwacka!?s Olmeto night at The End draws in one of the most loyal, friendly and up for it crowds in the capital, and no wonder, as the music flows from deep house to breaks to techno via rolling drum lines, haunting melodies and funking electronic beats. 2006 saw the release of their third artist album Feels Closer, from which some of The End anthems of the year were born, including the growling title track, and the Joe Jackson inspired Ride the Train ? out in December with a new Bushwacka! mix.

Blondie Vs Edison - Heart Of Glass

200611272029

Positiva heads into 2007 with a little something for the party season. The UK’s biggest dance label has gone for the jugular, bringing new and old ears alike the only official remix of Blondie’s ‘Heart Of Glass’, courtesy of Edison, aka Andy Chatterley. Currently rocking the DJ sets of Pete Tong, Annie Mac, and a host more, expect this to be one of the biggest anthems come New Year?s Eve.

Whether you know him as The Droyds, Demeter, EVE3000, or one half of Buick Project and Skylark with Nic Fancuili, you’ll know Chatterley is one of the most respected producers on the scene, with a pedigree that stretches back through the Noughties and Nineties. He?s recently remixed Muse, and produced up and coming bands, Deaf Stereo, Motormark, and Blondelle.

Almost peerless, Blondie were arguably the most influential group of the late 1970’s New York new wave scene, and scored hits with reggae, rock/disco, and hip hop. Their contribution to electronic music and the wider spheres of pop culture is immense. Be it the music, an intoxicating mix of guitars and electronic elements, or their style aesthetic (you only have to walk through London’s East End to see the latter) they?ve had an enduring appeal that has earned them a permanent place in club culture ? from Studio 54 through to today?s electro scenes dotted across the globe. Following a prestigious nomination into the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame, it?s also the band?s 30th anniversary this year (2006).

Eyerer & Chopstick ‘Haunting’

That?s right our kid, iO Music continue it?s drive to become one of the UK?s leading purveyors of all that?s electronic and house (hey, just don?t call it Electro House!) With this stunning fresh new single from one of the hottest production teams in electronic house Martin Eyerer and Chi-Thien Nguyen, better known as Chopstick

If you know the difference between house (as in where you live) and house (the music) chances are you?ll have heard of these guys. Both hugely influential producers in their own right; Martin with releases on labels such as Ministry Of Sound, Above The Sky, Unsubmissive alongside numerous collaborations and side projects whilst Chopstick has released music through Hooj, Silly Spider and his own Criminal Records. Both sides of the team have a huge amount of support from such deck luminaries as Digitalism, Chloe, Moguai, Funk D?void and Tom Neville, whilst the list of artists this duo have remixed include Kosheen, Snap, Simply Red, Deelite, Cassius, Deep Dish, LL Cool J, XZibit, Britney ?single again? Spears and Madonna. It?s fair to say I could actually run out space for famous people, DJs and labels that this duo have either remixed, been supported by or had records released by and that my friend, is no easy feat!

Introducing Nude

200611272025

In 2005, Ibiza based DJ Smokin Jo, and London’s renowned party organiser, Terry Hart, joined forces to create a party that was different from the trend saturating London’s club scene.
What started off as a relatively small intimate gathering at a small underground nightclub has progressed to road block parties at London’s Ministry of Sound. Throw in a couple of parties on the most famous terrace in the world at Space and secret beach parties, both in Ibiza and you have NUDE.

The philosophy behind NUDE is “what you see is what you get”. We are all born into this world equal, with nothing to hide, nude, filthy, beautiful and loved. NUDE is as much about outrageous, quirky avant-garde performance as it is about contemporary first-rate music. Jo and Terry together wanted to incorporate their backgrounds in Theatre, Fashion and Dance into NUDE and this they certainly have done.

Freak N’Chic

Freak N?Chic #18 is two debut releases from two new producers - ?Tom King and Jay Massive? and ?Marc Antona?. And, as a little bonus, :Terry: - one of
Freak N?Chic?s finest - responsible for 2005?s ?Stop Talking EP?, adds a remix to Tom King and Jay Massive.

Track one ?Our first time? comes from Tom King and Jay Massive. King and Massive first met in the toilets of London?s Fabric nightclub - where a friendship was born based on ?a world of hedonism, daftness and music with gaps?. A few years later, and bored one weekend, they made their first track - ?Our First Time?. Ghenacia was first made aware of the release mby another Freak N?Chic artist ? Jamie Jones - Ghenacia tried to sign the track, but was put off until this year. He finally got to sign it at the beginning of the summer and played the track almost every week on the DC10 terrace. ?Our First Time? is a simple groover; a slow, sleazy, teasing builder with interjected bleeps and bops.
