Gilles Peterson Back in Brazil
Exactly two years after the phenomenal success that was Gilles Peterson in Brazil comes a new instalment of the very best music that Brazil has to offer, as we find Gilles Peterson Back in Brazil.
GPBiB is a double album with Das Velhas focussing on the timeless songs and performers of the 60s & 70s. For anyone who has checked Gilles behind the decks or over the airwaves, Das Velhas will bring smiles of recognition. Rare tracks by the incomparable Jorge Ben, the fabulously funky Trio Mocoto and the great Wilson Simonal sit side by side lesser known gems by Silvio Cesar, Wilson De Neves and Evinha. The accompanying Novas set is all about now, taking in Brazilian DNB, reggae dub, spiritual bossa jazz and the burgeoning new reggaeton sounding Rio funk scene including tracks by Drumagick, Bruno E, Rappin? Hood & Seu Jorge.
Quite simply Gilles Peterson has been one of the world?s most influential DJs for many years. As a broadcaster, DJ, album compiler and record company A+R his way of relating and applying the world of music has touched countless listeners as well as influencing and inspiring an abundance of DJs and respected searchers for musical truth. He has been instrumental too in encouraging new music through his association with the Acid Jazz and Talkin Loud record labels via artists such as Terry Callier, 4 Hero, Roni Size, NuYorican Soul and The Young Disciples.
And then there?s Gilles?s abiding love for the music of Brazil, which goes back to his teens ever since he first broadcast over south London from his back yard shed. Brazilian music has featured heavily in his worldwide DJ sets and on his ground breaking WorldWide show on Radio 1. In the legendary Jazz Room at the Electric Ballroom in the 80s he fed London?s dancers with a staple diet of hard jazz and obscure but much loved, percussion fuelled, Brazilian fusion. Today, he is still diggin? and discovering those lush jazz infected classics that provide the foundation for Brazil?s funk, drum ?n bass and hip hop modernists and for the global nu-skool jazz crew.
Eivissa 06

Simon Dunmore the head of Defected Records, explains how Ibiza has been offended, then re-invented and how it is all so very grown up now.
Defected Records soul-boy boss Simon Dunmore is a fanatical collector of vinyl, with over 10,000 records organised by label, and with those he most loves and respects, Motown, Philly, Salsoul, Strictly Rhythm, all taking centre- stage.
Simon has always had a vision that his own label, Defected Records would one day be as revered and respected as those other labels, and that the Defected section will have pride of place in the collection of any self-respecting dance music fan. ?At Defected Records we have a disco philosophy, and disco and house music in its most genuine kind of definition just means people having a good time on a dance floor on a Saturday night?.
Simon began DJing in 1982 and has been working as an A&R man since 1989. This 24 year experience, along with an open mind and an ear for a hit go some way to explaining the massive success of Defected, the label he set up in 1999. To date his label has won numerous awards including Best Global Label at the Miami Winter Music Conference and Best Label at the 2005 UK House Music Awards.
His label has miraculously bucked the trend and has achieved great success despite the current suppressed music market in the UK.
He is the head guy of his own independent company who does not have to answer to the restrictions that a major would generally impose, because of this he has been able to exercise his own gut feeling when choosing to sign records and to date he has had some great successes including a UK No.1 with Roger Sanchez?s - Another Chance as well as numerous and varied recent top 10 records.
A man who doesn?t follow the competition, he goes with what he knows: ?Trends are trends, they come and they go, but good music is good music and that?s the bottom line really?. Good music is the key and he has displayed this through his most recent compilation Eivissa (Ibiza) 06, which is a cool, very grown up view of the music that the island is so famous for. This is certainly not a four to the floor main room mix as you would maybe expect from such a young and energetic place, but almost the complete opposite.
It is a soundtrack for an older, much more sophisticated clubber who now in their majority populate the island. This is the new Ibiza. It has changed a great deal in the last few years and now become a haven for the international glitterati. Simon has carefully compiled the perfect soundtrack to reflect the musical atmosphere during the day and night for such clientele. ?Ibiza is more sophisticated than it has been in recent years. The island is very conscious of the San Antonio West End pub crawl, people throwing up image that it had. The island got unfairly tagged with this reputation after the Ibiza uncovered series that was extensively shown on TV, and it was offended by that image it was given, so as a result a lot of the bars and the clubs and restaurants raised their prices, they didn?t want that sort of clientele to go to the island. So the island as a whole has got more and more exclusive, primarily because it?s an expensive place to go to. So I think that only people that are a little bit serious and possibly a little bit older and a little more affluent can afford to frequent the island. Not to say that young clubbers can?t or shouldn?t go, it just means that it?s become a little more sophisticated I feel?.
Simon is no stranger to the island and can comment with authority as he has visited the island almost religiously over the past 20 years. ?I actually went for the first time in 85 or 86?, He says ?I remember it kind of got a bit rave like between 91 and 95 and it wasn?t really what I was about. It?s almost like its re-discovered itself a few years later, and so I started to go back, and also as a record label and DJ it?s important to go there. You get a real good snap-shot of what people are up to, what records are being played and future sounds?
The island is famous for its wealth of nightlife, and the glamour of its discotheques. Simon embraced this culture and aspired to host a night in arguably the most glamorous club in the world, Pacha Ibiza, comparable easily to the excitement of Studio 54 where he identified instantly with the clientele.
?Generally the output of Defected is aimed at an older sophisticated more demographic, and I think that?s been true of house music and disco throughout the ages. If you look at classic clubs like studio 54, if you look at the pictures, they weren?t kids in those clubs; they are models, artists, and people at the top of their tree, and a little bit older?.
Simons Evissa compilation aimed to do just that, provide a soundtrack that reflected the new values of the island. ?As you get older your tastes mellow, and you want a different sort of quality to your clubbing, and I feel that Defected reflects that, and certainly our nights at reflects that. Pacha to me is the equivalent of studio 54 because you will see the paparazzi there trying to hook up with Elle McPherson, a grand prix driver, or some pretty wealthy people that frequent the place. So musically the album reflects that?. The cover artwork, a specially commissioned illustration, has taken inspiration from the island featuring a mythical Ibizan goddess Tannit which has given the album a beautiful and distinctive look, worthy of the island it represents.

If you want something released right, release it yourself. That is Frankie Knuckles’ stand. The genteel house music godfather is returning to the spotlight with a new album and a fresh reproduction of a 15-year-old classic, both of which will come out on his newly launched label Noice Music.
“I have learned that there’s a lot of people who really believe in me and my craft,” he says. “Even if I’m only making music for me and them, that’s fine. I’m not going to lose my shirt, but it’s better that I have control over it rather than put it in the hands of somebody who don’t have a clue.”
Knuckles’ career during the last decade has focused primarily outside the United States because, he says, “you go where you’re wanted.” He is, however, still one of the most beloved figures in American dance music. Noice’s first release is a rerecorded and remixed version of the 1991 instrumental hit “The Whistle Song.” The track can still wrap a dancefloor with love. “It’s kind of like an old blanket, isn’t it?” Knuckles says.
Noice’s other ambitious project is a track-by-track reimagining of Knuckles’ 2004 album “A New Reality” called “DubJay’s D’Light.” The new versions were created by a who’s who of house producers from David Morales to Blaze, and all are dub versions that feature snippets of vocals instead of the full vocal to add to the tunes’ international appeal.
“I’ve noticed that a lot of DJs, especially around the world, rely more on dubs,” Knuckles says. “It’s easier when the songs are not convoluted with so many vocals, because depending on what country you’re in, there could be a language problem.”
“D’Light” was inspired by U.K. club-soul trio Imagination’s 1983 release “Night Dubbing,” which reinterpreted its 1982 album “In the Heat of the Night” in the same way, and included a remix by Larry Levan.

Legend Desmond Dekker, who brought the sound of Jamaican ska music to the world has died, He was 64.
Dekker collapsed from an apparent heart attack at his home on Thursday, manager Delroy Williams said. “It is such a shock, I don’t think I will ever get over this,” Williams said. “Desmond was the first legend, believe it or not,” Williams added. “When he released ‘Israelites’ nobody had heard of Bob Marley - he paved the way for all of them. He was at his peak fitness, he had this big tour coming up for this summer and he was looking forward to it ? and then that was it.” Williams said.
“He died peacefully, but it still hurts. … I didn’t even get the chance to say goodbye properly.”
Several of Dekker’s most popular tunes ? “Rude Boy Train,” “Rudie Got Soul” and “007 (Shanty Town)” ? reflected the violent “rude boy” culture (”rude” referring to someone who was cool), establishing him as a rude boy icon. Dekker also enjoyed success with the 1970 hit “You Can Get It If You Really Want,” written by Jimmy Cliff.
Dekker made the UK his home in the late 1970s, and spent much of the decade touring. His popularity waned during the 1980s, but that didn’t keep the singer ? who declared bankruptcy in 1984 ? from recording. In 1990, “The Israelites” was reissued, and later used in various television commercials, which helped reinvigorate his career. Dekker was divorced with a son and a daughter
Darren Emerson, Sharam Jey, Frankie Knuckles, Shapeshifters and more?.
Label boss Darren Emerson continues his only UK residency at The End with a scorching line up for June?s Underwater night.
Since leaving his Underworld days behind, Darren Emerson has been busy turning Underwater into one of the most successful dance imprints in the UK. Now on its 75th release, the next instalment from the label will be the Greetings EP on June 19th from John Dahlback and David Eckenbeck under their ?Beckster? moniker. A new Underwater compilation series ?Solo? also begins next month, with the first edition mixed by Deepgroove. Darren, who is currently working on a full length artist album, will be headlining the main room with his distinctive style of driving house.
Darren will be joined by label mate and King Kong records head honcho Sharam Jey. His recent releases on both Underwater and King Kong showcase his diversity, from the chunky electro house of Monday Morning / Boarding School, produced with Lou Lou Players, to the Prince inspired ?Push Your Body?. Sharam dropped his debut artist album ?4 da loverz? in September last year ? a heady mix of filthy basslines and eighties synths.
Slave recordings head honcho D Ramirez completes the line up in the main room with his distinctive brand of funked-up, twisted, tribal, electro house. A prolific producer and remixer, his reworking of Bodyrox?s ?Yea Yea? has been tearing clubs apart across the land.
Upstairs in AKA, a man who needs no introduction, Frankie Knuckles the ?godfather of house? will be digging out some Chicago classics for Nocturnal. The story of Frankie?s assent to stardom has been well documented, and he is justifiably credited with defining a whole new genre of music with his early sets at The Warehouse club in Chigaco.
Joining Frankie will be house duo The Shapeshifters - musicians, producers, international DJ?s and label owners ? they have a lot more to their name than just the 2004 Miami anthem ?Lola?s Theme? which propelled them into the limelight. With Frankie Knuckles himself declaring them to be the leading lights of dance music?s new breed and last year?s house music awards pronouncing them ? best breakthrough DJ?s?, they are going from strength to strength. Expect to hear deep electronic grooves, string-laden emotive house and bass driven electro-tinged cuts.
In the lounge Arveene will be mixing up everything from booty shakin? electro to dancehall with a bit of hip hop, indie and house chucked in for good measure.
Every Saturday The End & AKA join together to present: ?As One? 2230/0700 (2300/0700 from 17th June) - ?16 The End & AKA, ?12 NUS, ?10 AKA only - Advance tickets (?15) available from: www.endclub.com / www.ticketweb.co.uk call 08700 600 100 - Fully licensed bar until close

Due to technical issues that have now been successfully resolved, the organisers of the Hi:Fi North festival have had to adjust the live bill for what will be the first large scale festival of the North East.
Earlier this week high winds damaged equipment that has now been safely removed the Hi:Fi North site, forcing the event managers to merge two arenas. This means ?You Say Party We Say Die?, ?Sound Explosion?, ?The Envelopes?, ?The Marshalls?, ?The Motorettes? and a Youth Music local competition winner band called Youth Music ?Stone Free? will no longer appear on the bill.
HI:FI is the first festival ever in the UK to combine rock gods and dance legends. Local heros ?Maximo Park?, ?Your Code Name is Milo? and ?Forward Russia? will all join Ian Brown, The Editors, Dirty Pretty Things and The Brakes on the main live stage. The DJ line up remains the same and the event continues to be co-headlined by legends such as Paul Oakenfold, Sasha, Digweed, Audio Bullys and 2ManyDjs. The line up for HIFI North will remain the biggest in the North East for an outdoor music festival that will see thousands of people enjoy fantastic contemporary music in the stunning grounds of the Northumberland countryside.
The event will feature buses to take festival goers to and from the centre of Newcastle. Buses will depart from the Metro Radio Arena in Newcastle from 10am in the morning leaving every 15 minutes: on the hour, quarter past the hour, half past the hour and quarter to the hour. This service will run until 22.00 hours when the service will be less frequent and will run on demand until 2am on Sunday. From 2am the service will run from the festival site returning to the centre of Newcastle, leaving every 15 minutes.
The festival organisers hope that this service will be well received by ticket holders and local residents. The buses will reduce the number of private vehicles going to and from the site and will thereby ease the possible risk of congestion. The offer of public transport should also deter people from drinking and driving. The event organisers are taking every step to minimise disruption to residents and communities near the festival site.
Tickets cost ?52.50 and VIP passes cost ?75. Tickets will be available at the site entrance on the day. For further information on the event please go to www.hififestival.com.
Step it up. That?s what you need to do if you want to stay ahead in this game. And that?s exactly what Four:Twenty have done. Running since 2001, the label has amassed an impressive roster, including Loco Dice, Buttrich, Hyper, Daniel Taylor, D Ramirez and of course, James Mowbray. The label is now taking up a gear and releasing its first label compilation ? not only to showcase the sound of the label itself (which is also where the DJ-friendly, unmixed eight-track bonus disc comes in), but to also showcase the music selection and forward-thinking mixing abilities of one of its main artists ? James Mowbray. Plus, to make it more interesting, they?ve also bought in street artist Dicy to design the package.
The label
Four:Twenty ? whether it?s house, electro or techno, the label?s philosophy is to release good quality electronic music: ?We’ve got a roster of fairly new artists, including James, so we thought, why not release our own Four:Twenty album? Push our ideas, have one of our guys mix the album, design the campaign and package it how we want. This is James? first compilation and ours as a label and we wanted it to be just right. The mix is similar to hearing him DJ in that A: it?s rocking and B: it?s full of variety. It?s certainly one of the more interesting compilations I?ve heard. And we’ve also included an unmixed bonus disc with some of the label?s finest moments, which will hopefully appeal to those that haven’t heard early Loco Dice, Buttrich, James and the rest.? ? Luke Allen, Four:Twenty Recordings..
The DJ/producer
DJing since he was 16 and producing for three years, James Mowbray got involved with Four:Twenty with D Ramirez, when the two sent some demos to the label. A&R liked what they heard and as Mowbray got off the plane in Ibiza he got a call saying they wanted to sign him. A year and a three-track deal later we have James mixing their first ever compilation. James also holds a monthly residency at Turnmills for Soundworx, where he will hold a London launch party on July 14th.
The mix
Some of dance music?s hottest current talent segued together so well you wonder if they ever should be apart. Tracks include exclusives from Buttrich (Loco Dice?s production partner ? will also be the accompanying single to the compilation out in August), Phonique, Jesse Rose, Drama Society, James Mowbray & D Ramirez, Mowbray & Sullivan, Tolfrey & Sylvester, Adultnapper and more. The mix was done live and in one take using Serato Scratch Live: ?The mix is 80 minutes of music that moves me and I feel passionate about, some of it new, some of it tracks that have played an important part in my DJ sets over the past 18 months. There’s no high concept or long months of post-production and edits that no-one will even notice. I wanted to let the tracks speak for themselves, so I recorded it completely live.? ? James Mowbray. The eight track unmixed bonus CD includes highlights from the label and exclusive releases from early Loco Dice, Buttrich, TG and Daniel Taylor.
The art
The artwork and packaging for this release is designed by Bristol spray-can artist Dicy. ?Dicy is an integral part of the Four:Twenty look, sound and feel ? this is a whole package, everything sounds and looks how we want it to.?
The Competition
To encourange other artists to get their work out there Four:Twenty are running a competition for an unknown artist to design the artwork for the next Four:Twenty release: Buttrich’s “Well Done” (first track on James’ mix).
To enter the artwork MUST be in 12″ by 12″ format and needs to be non digital - ie acryllic, spray paint, chalk, crayon, sketched (no potato prints or finger painting!!) - send a digital photograph to luke@fourtwentyrecordings.com. The winner/ runners up will then be contacted and would need to send the finished artwork to the label.
The winner’s design will be the front cover for 1000 limited edition 12s” of Buttrich’s “Well Done/Audiofeel” released August 28th which will feature a remix from a very special artist. The runners up designs will feature on the back.
The closing date for this is August 7th

Emerson?s Underwater imprint releases the fifth in the ?Underwater Episode? series. Emerson again controls disk one, whilst new Underwater signing Magik Johnson mixes disk two. Since 2002, the ?Underwater Episode? series have bought you the best of the Underwater talent ? the first mix from Emerson and Tim Deluxe, the second Emerson and Mutiny, the third Emerson and Paul Jackson, the fourth, last year, with Sharam Jey and now the fifth with New Zealand?s Magik ?Dick? Johnson.
Emerson?s been quiet on the UK scene of late, the past year has seen him constantly touring - through the US, France, Germany, Spain, Italy, Asia, South America… The only place you can now see him DJ in London is The End for his exclusive London Underwater residency. Underwater the label (now twelve years old) is still bubbling with signings including Joel Mull, Bugchaser, D Ramirez, Sharam Jey, Pnau, Beckster (John Dahlbeck and David Ekenback) and of course Magik Johnson, whilst Emerson?s anticipated debut album is finished ? with a major interest. The album includes collaborations with Compost Record?s Joseph Malik, Jamie Cullum?s brother Ben Cullum, Earth from Gus Gus, full gospel choirs and as Emerson says: ?I?ve got dance to guitar, to really melodic, soulful stuff; it?s still dance based music but in more of an eclectic flow. I?m thinking about going into the studio with D Ramirez to remix the whole album into more of a clubbier album to add to the package as well. It?s taken me a while, but with DJing, the label and life in general, this happens.?
Magik Johnson started djing originally at the Hacienda alongside Graeme Park and Tom Wainwright. Between 1994 and 95, he started producing tracks for New Order?s Pleasure Recordings and Manchester?s Paperecordings collective, shortly afterwards establishing Shaboom Records with Mark Bell. Magik has also released on such influential imprints as Danny Tenaglia?s Twisted label, The End Recordings and has remixed Crazy P, DJ Sneak, Joey Negro, Q- Burns, Human League, Amillionsons amazing ?Misti Blu? and his collaboration with Ian Pooley ?Piha? is a renowned classic. Last summer Dick released his ?Cardboard Journey? album to critical acclaim and this year sees him tie in with Underwater for a little play.
?Dick?s the ideal person for me to mix Episode 5 with as both our styles compliment each other perfectly. I?ve always admired his work; he?s been consistently releasing quality tunes for years now. I originally got introduced to him through two of my other Underwater artists - Bugchaser and Greg Churchill, he played me ?Malone/Jump? and I thought it was great for Underwater ? it?s slightly harder for him, but still has that ?Magik? touch. :)? ? Darren Emerson.
Emerson?s signature on the Episode compilations is his smooth entrance to the mix (he even used his daughter singing on one). This is no different; a spacey predecessor warms up for Emerson?s 70 minute electronic space invader battle. Beckster kicks off with ?How Ya Doin? ? a new Underwater signing, ?A Tribute to Mark Spoon? follows by Ynau, plus tracks from Onionz, D Ramirez, new Underwater signing Joel Mull, James Mowbray and D Ramirez, the DJ Hell remix of Chelonis R Jones? ?Deer in the headlights? and, a track that represents an Emerson ?end of set? style perfectly - the deep and trippy Darko Esser and Benny Rodrugues? ?Paradox?.
Magik?s electronic journey kicks of with the dirty DJ T?s ?Funk on You? going into his ?I?ll take you there? on Honchos music, then we have Jazzy Eyewear?s Zoo Brazil mix of ?Gotta Be Real?, Magik?s own deep and twangy ?Jump?, Ian Pooley, the deep niceness of Margot meets Melody Maker, the trippy weirdness of Trentemoller?s sunstroke, Tom Middleton?s mix of Kerry Chandler, the lazer gun action of Magik?s ?Malone? and for the enfin the old skool vibes of Mr Gone?s ?Do For Love? ? Magik?s remix.

Proving electronic music is as strong as ever a new conference has arrived in the form of the Madrid Electronic Conference or MEC for short. The first edition of this pioneering event takes place in July at Casa De Campo in the heart of Spain?s capital city Madrid. The multidisciplinary day programmes will encompass debates, interactive stands, equipment displays, networking lounges, VJ and DJ performances and workshops. Full day programmes are coming soon. There will also be professionals speaking on the social issues that can affect the industry and youth culture in general; this will be unique to MEC. Topics covered will include drug prevention, addiction programmes, social integration and more.
Madrid Electronic Conference will bring together industry professionals, respected producers, artists and more under one roof for 4 days to swap ideas, create opportunities and generally have a great time linking the different area?s of music, art and media in one of the most cosmopolitan and welcoming cities in the world.
The Night events will take place over 3 evenings with one evening dedicated to trance, techno and house respectively. All the DJs have been hand picked for their global relevance to today?s scene. The below names will no doubt add energy and enthusiasm to an event that has been created out of a love of the music scene and a desire to create something new and fresh.
Two DJ’s Tiesto and Toni Verdi took time out to give there views on MEC.
Madrid Electronic is taking place between July 6th-9th at Casa de Campo, Madrid, Spain see www.mecfestival.com for details
Tiesto
How do you feel about being involved in a new music conference?
I think it?s a great idea to set up a music conference in Spain as the scene is really big. I always like new and fresh initiatives so therefore I wanted to participate in the Madrid Electronic Music Conference.
What do you know about the Madrid Electronic Conference?
That it?s gonna be an amazing event!
What do you think of Madrid as a city? Will you be taking any time out to go there?
It?s a beautiful city with a lot of cultural history. Crazy about soccer and music, like me J.
Do you attend other Conference?s such as Miami?s WMC and Amsterdam?s Dance Event? What do you think these type of events bring to the scene?
I attend the WMC every year. I think the worldwide Music Conferences have a contribution on the development of dance music on an international level
What can people expect from your set on the night?
A set filled with the Sound Of Ti?sto!
Finally, what are you up to at the moment? Do you have any exciting new projects?
I?m currently touring through North-America and I will be touring through Europe a lot during the coming summer. During the weekdays I will spend a lot of time in my studio to produce new tracks. I am just finishing a track now with maxi jazz from the band faithless
Toni Verdi
How do you feel about being involved in a new music conference?
I?m very happy to be participating and for me it?s always a pleasure to be able to indulge in musical debate with as much of the public as possible while at the same time sharing billing with artists of the highest standard. I can enjoy styles and visions different to my own, I believe you should never shut yourself off and focus solely on what you are doing, you need to be open to everything.
What do you know about the Madrid Electronic Conference?
As far as I know this the first one. And the first festival of this type in Madrid. I think it?s good for the city that an event of this calibre and characteristics is being held there and at the same time it?s good for Spain. There?s a great line up over the three days and a very ample musical programme. I hope and trust that this first event will be the start of a great journey.
What do you think of Madrid as a city? Will you be taking any time out to go there?
Madrid is a beautiful city and important metropolis which offers a wide and varied culture, I tend to visit every year. It has an important nocturnal network of clubs and bars where the best of many genres like music, television or cinema of this country gather, genres that use any night of the week to celebrate the end of shooting for example, which means it?s very easy to find venues full of people any day of the week! I?ll hopefully take a day out as I have friends in Madrid so I?ll make the most of it and visit them.
Do you attend other Conference?s such as Miami?s WMC and Amsterdam?s Dance Event? What do you think these type of events bring to the scene?
I?ve not been to these in particular but I?ve attended other large events like Sonar in Barcelona, Impulz in Amsterdam and almost all of the Monegros Groove Parades amongst others.
What can people expect from your set on the night?
My sessions try to be as eclectic as possible always centred on my musical restlessness and what I?ve been liking most recently. For me a good record is a good record, there?s no need to think up labels, it all comes under electronica and it?s various forms.
Finally, what are you up to at the moment? Do you have any exciting new projects?
I?m currently concentrating on my sound engineering studies, which means I?m not left with a lot of time, but I have two or three projects in early stages which I intend on working on and giving some shape.

An alleged British terror cell talked of blowing up London’s Ministry of Sound nightclub, the Old Bailey heard.
Accused Jawad Akbar said no-one could “turn round and say ‘oh they were innocent’ those slags dancing around?”.
He and another member of the alleged cell linked to al-Qaeda appeared to discuss targets in surveillance tapes.
Gary Smart, the Ministry of Sound’s general manager, said in a statement read to court that 1.5 million people had visited it since it opened.
He said: “If the Ministry of Sound was to be subjected to terrorist attack, then it’s clear that the consequences could be devastating with such a large number of people in such a confined space. “The impact could result in loss of life, injury or structural damage.”

In between hogging the top spots of the hard dance chart, gigging around the globe, AND managing to look like she never stays out late ? Anne Savage has just undergone her first month as a weekly presenter on Ministry of Sound Radio.
Anne, who was selected over hundreds of other DJs presents her specialist show, every Wednesday between 8-10pm (GMT) on the newly re-vamped station. The two-hour show packs out the sounds of Anne?s dirty house/breaks/electro-clash moniker Dumb Blonde, as well as the harder tech-fused sounds of Anne Savage.
The appropriately titled ?Anne Savage? show went live last month and in its first weeks listeners as far as New Zealand to Canada, and Eastern Europe to America were tuning in.
Not only has the show been popular for Anne?s choice of tunes, but also for her awesome competitions. Winners have scooped prizes including vinyl, tickets to the likes of Hi-Fi and Tidy, UDG gear, plus a ?100 shopping spree in Criminal Clothing!
Besides a selection of the most upfront tried and tested dance floor bombs, Anne has been joined each week by a guest DJ or producer that have so far included Rob Tissera, Scot Project, Andy Farley and Public Domain?s Mark Sherry. Scheduled for future shows are Lee Coombs, Lisa Lashes, Alex Kidd, Elite Force, Dylan Rhymes and Sander Van Doorn, this show is truly hotting up! And it?s not just UK talent that Anne is looking for. On her global travels she will be hunting down who she thinks are the best in upcoming, residents and A-list DJs.
But don?t get too settled, there is another new move about to take place. From the 5th June Ministry Of Sound will also be available on Sky Digital Channel 0198 where the Anne Savage show will move to a new Thursday slot between 6-8pm (GMT). The Dumb Blonde feature has even been stretched to an hour to due popular demand!
