A man who police say was shot a week ago by Detroit rapper Proof died early Tuesday.
Army veteran Keith Bender, 35, had been in a critical condition since being shot in the head at a nightclub in Detroit, a week ago.
According to police, eye witnesses said Proof, born Deshaun Holton, shot Bender in the head, after knocking him to the ground during an argument.
Bender’s cousin Mario Etheridge, 28, returned fire and killed the rapper instantly with multiple shots to the head and body.
Etheridge claims he was acting in self-defense. He faces a maximum of five years in prison.
Lawyers for Proof have vigorously denied eye witness accounts that he fired first.
Etheridge, 28, posted $US7000 bail and was released from the Wayne County Jail.
Proof, 32, was a close friend of Eminem and had a small part in his 2002 movie, 8 Mile.
“He will be missed as a friend, father and both the heart and ambassador of Detroit hip-hop,” said the singer in a message on the D12 website.
“Proof was funny, he was smart, he was charming. He inspired everyone around him.”
A funeral is due to take place this Wednesday.

Pete & co will be Getting Loaded on the Common in an Exclusive UK Festival performance, making their appearance even more of a spectacle. Get Loaded in the Park will be the only place to catch Babyshambles out in the open air this summer and we wouldn?t be surprised if their performance was to go down in the history books? for all the right reasons! Forget the supermodel girlfriends, the court appearances and the daily press attention? beneath it all is a poet, a genius and a true rock and roll icon of our generation.
The Buzzcocks, De La Soul & The Cuban Brothers
Meanwhile, the multi-talented (and multi-tanned) Cuban Brothers return as exclusive hosts for the day, plus will be debuting their full 8 piece live band onto the Get Loaded crowd for the very first time. To celebrate 30 years of Punk we welcome The Buzzcocks as very special guests, with support from punkettes ? The Slits. The afternoon?s entertainment will be brought to life by pioneering US hip-hop hippies, De La Soul. Expect Clapham to erupt as the famous trio unleash classic cuts like ?Magic Number? and ?Me, Myself and I?, with more hip-hop beats coming your way from the World?s No.1 Beat boxer Killa Kela. Having previously reformed The Happy Mondays, The Farm and Flowered Up, this year Get Loaded goes one better as we bring you a ?Killer? and uber-rare live performance from acid house hero Adamski ? who?s back in the groove after 15 years. Look out for special guest vocalists (fingers crossed!!) DJ sets come in the shape of the Hacienda Soundsystem (Peter Hook, Graeme Park & Bez) featuring Madchester faves N-Joi offering a Live PA of their classic anthem, erm ?Anthem?. Also on the main stage will be everyone?s favourite Unkle ? James Lavelle around a live show from breaks don Adam Freeland.

Bugged Out! will be have the dance dudes rocking, as they bring you the heavyweight sounds of Greenvelvet, Tiga, Erol Alkan, Digitalism (Live), Justin Robertson, Serge Santiago and Jojo De Freq, with a few more surprises up their sleeves to announce soon. X-FM?s John Kennedy returns to Get Loaded as the official host of The Midday Ramble Vs Stylish Riots Arena, which already features the likes of British Sea Power, 65 Days of Static, The Boy Least Likely To, Lethal Bizzle and The Chalets. The remaining tent on the Common will be co-hosted by Sean Rowley?s sensational Guilty Pleasures and the world famous Comedy Store. Expect cult choons from Sean, Terry Hall (The Specials) and more, alongside live performances from the brilliant Barefoot and one-man bands Kid Carpet and Son of Dave. Legendary drug smuggler Howard Marks returns for a 2nd year too, reading unheard extracts from his forthcoming new book. The Hardest Way To Make A living has given Mike Skinner a second number 1 album, the follow up to A Grand Don’t Come For Free and The Streets first album Original Pirate Material.
Massive Attack’s greatest hits collection Collected remains at number two.
Gnarls Barkley held onto the number one single for a third week with Crazy.

Eleven people have been arrested in a drugs raid on south London club The Fridge.
It is understood some 200 police officers had been involved in the raids on Saturday night following an intense two-month operation that had been focusing on supply of class A drugs - these include cocaine, amphetamines and ecstasy.
The raid, codenamed Atuna, started at about 2325 BST on Saturday and was triggered by a command of “attack, attack” as scores of officers burst in through the front door while others covered the rear.
Officers took control of the foyer and the dance floor, turned the music off and the lights up.
Plain-clothes officers, operating undercover, were inside the club as the raid began. Some of the revellers were then brought into the foyer and searched for drugs.
The raid came as hundreds of clubbers were arriving for the start of the venue’s “Polysexual” night, which had been due to run until lunch time today.

Following stints at Soulfuric, MN2S, Look at You, MAP Dance & Peppermint Jam UK production Duo Graham Lord and Adam Unsworth, collectivaly knows as the Audiowhores, have launched their own label Tempogroove Recordings .
For their debut relase the Audiowhores have teamed up with vocalist Pete Simpson on the single ‘Not Going Back’ a track that oozes quality, everything the guys are famed for. With its slick warming chords and bubbly punchy beats, Pete’s glossy vocals add a whole new dimension to the track with the chorus hook destined to have the dance floor swamped in delight with hands aloft.
Chopping around with the vocals and slightly beefing up the bassline, the Dub adds a vibe for the peak time soulful floors ? as infectious as the original mix only toning down the verses for the looped chorus to weave its magic. Finally the remix lands courtesy of Brazilian hotshot DJ Meme - with a vast array of major and independent label remixes under his established belt, he delivers a slice of disco-infused magic to perfectly compliment the vocal for a truly uplifting and inspiring workout.?

Janet Jackson who is currently working on a her new album, has been alerted that songs she recently recorded with hitmaking producer Rich Harrison have leaked to the internet.
At least one song has already made the rounds, titled “Put It On Me.”
“A couple of years ago I recorded some tracks with Rich Harrison. But none of that music will appear on my new album,” Jackson said “I have a tight rein on all of the music that has been recorded.”
The new album “20 Years Old,” is expected to be released later int the year.

The most exciting event taking place this Easter has just got bigger, better, and even fatter than any amount of Easter eggs will make you - the legendary Kenny Dope is confirmed to play Club Azuli at The Cross on Saturday 15th April. Kenny is notoriously reclusive so a 3 hour up close and personal set in the Lounge looks set to make this one very special night indeed. Kenny attendance will mark the release of his ?Choice? album. A double cd of classics filled with seminal disco and funk grooves from days gone by.
The master at work himself lands in the Big Smoke to play at Azuli?s newest party ?Club Azuli?, which is taking over London?s infamous venue The Cross for the start of a bi-monthly residency. Every other month there will be three rooms offering the best in house cuts: the main room will showcase electronic house, while the lounge will cater for the more soulful sounds. The third arch will be hosted by the Togetherness collective aka Rob Marmott and DJ Marble who are legends for putting on great parties on both the white isle and at home in London.
For those not in the know (where have you been?) Club Azuli is a new album series that highlights the future sound of underground dance as well as the current big room tracks on the dance floor. The album marks a new era for the countries most-popular house label, not only through the output of these quality albums, but also by establishing Club Azuli as a force in club land.
Superchumbo star Tom Stephan and Azuli?s own David Piccioni will entertain the crowds of the main room whilst the living encyclopaedia of beats that is Kenny Dope will woo the crowds in the lounge. The line-up for the third arch are Togetherness? own Rob Marmot and DJ Marble, who are no strangers to flirting with the crowds at The Cross.

The music bill is already making festival history by programming rock and dance deities such as Ian Brown, Hard Fi, Super Furry Animals, Oakenfold, Roni Size and Sasha and Digweed.

Karaoke
When the drinks are rolling and spirits are high what better place to completely embarrass yourself than at a karaoke booth. Carl Cox will host an area of his own on Saturday 15 July during Dance Valley. Now that the programme for the Global Stage is fleshed out, the line-up for Dance Valley Festival, The Weekender, is nearly complete.
?Hosting the Global Stage at Dance Valley is like a homecoming?, says Carl Cox. The man who has sent tens of thousands of dance enthusiasts home in utter euphoria is returning to host the Global area for the third time in the festival?s history. The friendly techno giant from London once famously said: ?A year without Dance Valley is a year not lived?. And many festivalgoers will agree that ?an edition of Dance Valley without Carl Cox is a year without having partied.? The DJ / producer has put together a thrilling programme that only features huge, international techno names.
The Spanish fury CRISTIAN VARELA, owner of the Pornografic label, is a matador at the turntables. His steaming sets have the same effect on a dance floor as a red flag does on a bull. Rotterdam?s MICHEL DE HEY, possibly Holland?s most important techno export product, has done his part to make the country famous for more than just cheese, tulips and weed. Germany?s empress of techno DJ MONIKA KRUSE has helped single-handedly to speed up the emancipation process in the scene by showing that female DJs are by no means inferior to their male counterparts.
Carl?s friendship with soul mate TREVOR ROCKCLIFFE from London goes back nearly 15 years. And Cox shares the same love for seriously funky techno with house influences with his fellow Englishman, who has produced for Carl?s In-tec label. Diamond in the rough DJ HAL (alias Roger Watson), another fellow countryman from the techno underground, keeps shining brighter. Finally, France?s dance god JACK DE MARSEILLE won over more than a few fans in 2000 when he treated audiences to a brilliant set in the sun kissed valley. That one memorable set of electro, house, techno and tech-house alone more than justifies his invitation.
Dance Valley will be held this year during the weekend of 14 and 15 July. For more information please visit: www.udc.nl & www.dancevalley.com.
