Cicada

Imagine Blondie jamming with Can, New Order and The Sugarcubes, The Cocteau Twins and Slowdive adding the sonics, with Daft Punk and Quincy Jones at the controls of Paisley Park?s mixing desk - the result might sound everything and nothing like Cicada. With a series of critically acclaimed singles under its belt, one of the most talked about electronic bands in the UK is about to release its debut album.

Utilising live instruments and old skool synthesisers: mini moogs, Junos, Jupiter 8?s and Linn drums as well as guitars, Cicada has a sound all of its own. The roll call above gives an indication of where their sound lies, but you won?t currently find it on any musical map.

The band comprises Aaron Gilbert (also known as Mr Natural), Alex Payne, and Icelandic vocalist, Heidrun Bjornsdottir (formerly of Gloss and 4AD?S Gus Gus). Alex and Aaron have a wealth of experience in producing, making music, and running labels. Both were born out of the electronic scene, but with an equal dislike of musical boundaries - hence their cross-genre forays.

Dance heads will know their reputation one of the finest ?alternative? remixers in the business, taking in Seelenluft, The Source, and Mish Mash amongst others. But when rock bands need a deft electronic touch, they also turn to Cicada - New Order, The Editors, 13 Senses, Depeche Mode, Lorraine, and more, have come to them for remixes.

?Cicada? is a stunning, imaginative debut. 13 diverse tracks stamped with their signature electronic sound, ranging from breathtaking indie-dance, ?Cut Right Through?, ?The Things You Say?, ?All About You?, ?Rollerball?, ?I?m Waiting?; ballsy guitar-anthems, ?You Got Me Feeling?; instrumentals like album opener, ?The Edge?, and ?Electric Blue?; the deep house of ?Harmonic?; leftfield chillout ?Elle et Moi? and ?Cicada?s?, and downbeat laments, ?Can?t Be Doin? With Love? (featuring Ben Onono).

As any fan of entomology will know, their insect namesake, ?the cicada?, thrives in warmer climes, and musically, this band?s retro-fitted atari pop could define summer 2006.

Tim Deluxe - Ego Death

 Images Artists Timdeluxe1

Last year was all about getting his head down and getting on with it for Tim Deluxe. He set up his own label AT Records and released only two tracks ?I don?t care?, which featured Barefoot?s Sam Obernik on vocals (the same Obernik from ?It Just Won?t Do?, of course) and ?Reflections? ? an underground techno cut.

The rest was spent checking where his head was AT and where he wanted to take his direction. AT only 28 years of age and having released a plethora of releases - which all cut through different genres ? including the speed garage anthem RIP Groove as Double 99 (which he was responsible for alongside Omar Amidora ? and which is getting re-released later in the summer), ?Sirens/We All Love Sax?, ?It Just Won?t Do?, rock bootlegs for White Stripes and Coldplay, the bangra influences of ?Mundaya?, ?I Don?t Care? - the list goes on. Not only do we see that Deluxe is a talented and varied producer, but we also see that he adapts to different musical styles, whilst still retaining a sound that is his own.

As 2006 kicked in Deluxe knew where his head was AT ? he started up his own small monthly night London?s East End on the last Thursday of the month ? called AT ? which has, so far, had guests including Nic Fanciulli, Serge Santiago, Giles Smith from Secret Sundaze, Switch and Talvin Singh. The next party is on April 27th with Rui Da Silva (64 records) joining Deluxe and a very special guest TBC.

And the album. Deluxe has been locked in his studio working on his new album entitled ?Ego Death?. ?Espoo?s Rose? is the first official release from the album. There will be only 750 vinyl releases in the world ? only 500 of which available in Europe. There will also be a TWO WEEK only download available exclusively on Beatport.com from 14 ? 28 April 2006. Again Deluxe has adapted, changed, evolved. Dark, deep and emotive, ?Espoo?s Rose? is only a taster of his forthcoming album, ?Ego Death?, due for release on At Records in September.

The Alien - Robot Man Video

 00216 46 23 216533264 L

Ladies and gentlemen, The Aliens have landed. Armed with a bottomless bag of psychedelically inclined rock and acid dipped electronics, The Aliens bring a freedom of spirit and a certainty of intent that immediately sets them out from the current crop of guitar slingers. Inspired by Sergio Leone and Serge Gainsbourg, Brian Eno and Brian Wilson, Larry David and Ol’ Dirty Bastard, their songs in the key of Fife reference the past whilst belonging resolutely to the future.
These Aliens have history - between them they have been behind some of the most enthralling British music of the last decade. John Maclean and Robin Jones were members of the Beta Band. Gordon Anderson was a founding Beta Band member who went on to record two albums under the Lone Pigeon moniker.

Alienoid Starmonica EP is the first release from The Aliens; four tracks that give you a clear insight into this trio’s musical imagination. From the freak out initiation theme of ‘Hey Leanne’ through the good time moves of ‘Robot Man’ and on to the inspired outrospection of ‘Ionas (Look For Space)’ it is abundantly clear that the mothership is running on a full tank of ideas.

The Aliens recently played their first three live dates in their native Scotland. Raw and sweaty, crowds were moved, beautiful mistakes were made and friendships were formed. Take a look for yourself at their next London show as part of the Camden Crawl on April 20th. Additionally The Aliens are already confirmed to appear at the festival dates listed below.

The Aliens ? Live:

20th April ? Camden Crawl, London
3rd June ? Homefires, London
21st July ? Wickerman, Scotland
18th August ? Green Man, Wales
10 September ? Bestival, Isle Of Wight

Dub Step

Dub Step is the new **sliced bread / wheel / Friday Nights / Stay in / Going Out / Whatever and this latest double 12? release from one of the scene?s leading production outfits ?Digital Mystikz? is set to explode as London?s Soul Jazz Records imprint prove once more just how much they run tings.

Otherwise known as Mala and Coki, Digital Mystikz hail from Norwood in sunny South London. Their alternately militant and melodic first releases have been released on Big Apple Records, Rephlex as well as their own DMZ label. Add to this their recent high-profile sessions on Radio One (including Pete Tong, Mary Anne Hobbs and John Peel tribute event) as well as running their own bi-monthly Sound System night ?DMZ?, which has become a benchmark for the current dub-step scene, their soon to be legendary sets at ?Forward? (Dub Step?s key event) shows they are fast becoming the most talked about producers in the scene.

Now Soul Jazz Records are set to release two vinyl-only super loud DJ pressings from this premier dub-step team. ?Misty Winter/ Conference? and ?Walkin with Jah/ Earth run a Road? are classic examples of how Digital Mystikz have mixed Dubstep, Jamaican Dancehall science and heavy sub-basslines making themselves one of the most talked about groups of the moment.

Going To Ibiza - Stay In Style At Hotel Es Vive

 France Spain---Ibiza,-Balearic-Islands

Sleek chic & unique, Es Vive is an art deco retreat with a cool relaxed ambience. From the moment you walk into the hotel there is something that makes you feel like you belong. Es Vive pride themselves in making sure every client feels special with their attention to service being second to none. Situated on the South East side of Ibiza close to Ibiza Town, Playa d?en Bossa and legendary club Space, Es Vive is ideally situated to experience the best of what Ibiza has to offer.

There are 55 stylish & cosy rooms to choose from, which include 2 suites and many with balconies and ocean views. No two rooms are identical in terms of lighting, wall paper design, bathroom colour, curtains and carpet, which maintains the unique visual attraction.

Es Vive offers perfect poolside lounging for those who want to relax, with a bar close at hand offering cool cocktails and a menu that incorporates Asian influences with light Mediterranean fare and even a couple of classic English dishes. You can also pamper yourself at the Es Vive Beauty Farm, which offers the very best hair, beauty and massage treatments.

As the sun sets the Smirnoff Electric Cabaret bar is the place to be. Developed by Smirnoff and Es Vive, who joined forces to create one of the trendiest haunts on the island, the space has been totally transformed into the most stylish bar on the island, if not the world! It has a unique level of style and sophistication unparalleled in Ibiza, with its leather lined alcoves and snug secluded areas that give a sense of intimacy and comfort.

Es Vive is also a great place to party. This summer there will be a whole host of fabulous events and parties to look forward to, with collaborations with Cream, Ministry of Sound, Monneypenny?s, Hed Kandi and numerous other one offs. There are also dj?s playing simply the most sublime sounds around to enhance your daytimes and the most upfront tunes to ignite your nights, everyday!

Es Vive has come along way since its humble beginnings 6 years ago and has now become the most happening, stylish and atmospheric abodes in Ibiza. It was originally an idea of three friends who met in Ibiza and battled against the odds to turn their dream into a reality. At the time the hotel was in a state of disrepair and in complete need of renovation but the location, uniqueness and magic of the place just shone through immediately and voila Es Vive was born.

Their aim was to create a hip boutique hotel to retreat to or launch from for Ibiza?s movers and groovers, but without inflated room prices. It?s a place you never need to leave; you can start your day lounging on the decking by the pool, snack on something tasty from the pool bar, washed down with as much cava sangria as you can quaff, dine on the terrace at night, and stagger back to the Electric Caberet after a big night out.

Where will you be staying this summer?

Join Bimbo Jones - Harlem One Stop

200604182039

?Harlem One Stop? is a subway ride back to the quality house music of old, and was hand-picked as a future hit by original ?Madchester? icon Mike Pickering, who said the track had energy reminiscent of Black Box?s classic ?Ride On Time?. The Original Mix side-steps the feverish use of filters and samples that has become the standard for crossover dance hits of late, opting instead for twanging guitars, diva vocals and a live horn section early-Perfecto would be proud of. Meanwhile the Dead Stereo Mix leads things forcefully down a dark alley, where echoing vocals are looped into jackin? synths and electro-tinged claps.

Bimbo Jones are a UK based trio, made up of studio partners Lee and JB, also known to many by their alter-egos Dead Stereo & Element. Lee?s background lies in DJing, which he was drawn into in the early-nineties after hearing the likes of Sasha, Carl Cox and Massive Attack at those now infamous free parties. Meanwhile JB started out playing thrash guitar in underground clubs, before becoming the accomplished multi-instrumentalist he is today - he can often be found playing live with his chill out hip hop band Jacuti.

The duo?s unique blend of talents have proven to be the basis for a successful partnership, with remixes for the likes of Deepdish , Usher, The Bodyrockers, Ciara and Annie Lennox under their belts. More recently, they were the producers behind the re-birth of a curly-haired crooner with the Leo Sayer-sampling Number One ?Thunder In My Heart Again? by Meck.

However it was only after the pair?s introduction to South London songstress Katherine Ellis that Bimbo Jones the band was born and work began on their forthcoming album. Katherine?s extensive credentials include touring with Roger Sanchez as a featured vocalist, four chart hits with the Ruff Drivers, work with Dave Lee under his Raven Maize guise and the massive Salsoul Nugget hit ?If You Wanna?. Her vocals have also graced breakbeat anthems such as ?Shiver? by Lee Coombs and Dylan Rhymes? ?Salty?, as well as Mark Knight?s recent hit ?Insatiable?.

Join Bimbo Jones on their trip to ?funky town? as they release ?Harlem One Stop? on June 12th.

Michael Jackson plans new album

The the new album will be closely watched in the industry following “Invincible”, Jackson’s previous comeback bid, registered disappointing sales of around two million copies in the US in contrast “Thriller” remains one of the bestselling studio albums of all time with over 26 million U.S. copies sold.

The Gallery 11th Birthday

It?s time to crack open the champagne at Gallery Towers on Friday 28th April, as we smear Birthday cake all overselves for the 11th time. There simple isn?t another clubnight like The Gallery anywhere across the land and the fact that it?s still doing the business week in week out is enough to make us smile like the lovable rogues we are!

Over the years, The Gallery has seen and done just about everything there is to do. Bought the T-shirt? More like bought a factory to make T-shirts! From the home-grown warriors like Tall Paul, Sister Bliss, Fergie, Gavyn Mytchel and Lottie to the overseas folk like Timo Maas, Sander Kleinenberg, Benny Benassi and Gabriel & Dresden (who all first tasted the greatness of the UK club scene at The Gallery)? the club has always strive to revolve, regroup and rock out. It remains the ONLY club in London where you?ll hear the big-hitters like Paul Van Dyk, Armin Van Buuren, Ferry Corsten, Tiesto or Paul Oakenfold in action, whilst then on the flipside to that, The Gallery is also one of the only clubs in London to devote so much of its musical output to the progression of nurturing new talent: 2 x undiscovered warm up djs play every week x 52 times a year.

Despite racking up year 11 on the bedpost, The Gallery has never looked fitter or better positioned to party. 2006 has already been one of the busiest and most exciting years to date, and we?re still only a quarter of the way through it! New backroom residencies from Adrift Records, Curfew Time, Jukebox Rebel and Vaccine have all been welcome additions, with the new 3rd room offering more choice and greater variety to the musical programming. Look out for a new bi-monthly residency from Distinctive Records kicking off in the summer, plus more UK tours than ever before ? including our very own Gallery Tent at the Leeds Love Parade in May.

But back to the night at hand now and a classic Gallery line-up staying faithful to the residents who have given so much over the years. Naturally Tall Paul will be at the top of the ship for this one, locking horns with good pal and former resident Seb Fontaine for what looks set to be an explosive night. Gallery residents John Askew and Gavyn Mytchel provide more main room firepower as they bang out the tech-trance and odd Gallery ?anthem?, with Brighton?s Ciaran McCarthy having the honour of warming up for this lot! Next door in T2, resident of 11 years Steve Lee brings the Balearic beats to London as he presents a truly world class line-up of Ibiza heroes at his much-loved Joy party. First up is Sarah Main, the tribal-loving Queen of Pacha, whilst Steve?s second special guest is Peace Division geezer and DC10 resident Clive Henry. And yet there?s still more. Oh my. Having made such an impact on The Gallery dancefloor last year, the Rock Da World posse have been recruited as guests hosts of T3. Expect cheeky rock re-edits, guitar samples and a mish-mash of sounds and styles, as Coburn (Tim Healey), Daniele Davoli and Chris Lloyd supply the CDR?s. They?ve also got a very special guest hitting the decks in the shape of DJs Are Not Rock Stars feat. Princess Superstar and Alexander Technique. Happy Birthday one and all.

Joining Pete will be Harlem Nights boss Steve Lawler, ex Radio 1 and Type promoter Seb Fontaine, Danny Howells, No.1 dance act The Shapeshifters who will be performing Live (UK Exclusive!) and Nic Fanciulli.

Finally Arena Three hosted by London?s leading club events HeatUK, Serious and The Gallery ups the tempo (only slightly this year!) featuring Radio 1 DJ and boss of the Serious World empire Judge Jules, Italian techno legend that is Mauro Picotto, our third Radio 1 DJ Fergie alongside Gallery resident Tall Paul plus the UK?s leading Trance DJs Ian Betts and Matt Hardwick plus fast rising Dutch tech trance superstar Sander Van Doorn.

All this and we haven?t even mentioned the after party!
