Club Azuli The Cross, London

After a successful launch, Club Azuli is set, and ready to go for the next installment on 17th June at The Cross, London. This party is also
the launch of Club Azuli Ibiza that kicks off on Wednesday 28th June at El Divino, Ibiza and will take place every Wednesday thereon.

Club Azuli settled into their new home over the Easter weekend and though the competition was fierce, Club Azuli pulled out all the stops
and filled the club to capacity. It was one-in-one-out at 1am! The Club Azuli sound had an instant draw, and with a venue like The Cross -
complete with it?s infamous garden terrace - London?s punters knew where the party was at.

No time has been wasted getting the next show on the road. On 17th June, headlining the electronic sounds of the main room is Italian
house legend Joe T Vannelli. Rarely visiting the UK, this international producer and DJ will headline with super producer Tom Neville, famed
for his remixing and innovative production. A Club Azuli party would not be complete without its residents including Azuli?s own David
Piccioni ? a man who knows better than most how to work a crowd with his chunky electronic style of house music.

The lounge caters for the more soulful sounds of house with headliner Michael Gray - one half of Full Intention whose track ?Believe? is
currently a huge hit in the clubs and it also appeared on the debut Club Azuli album. Playing alongside Michael Gray is XFM?s Huggy who is
host to the most popular dance show on the recently renamed Scottish station;

Last but not least, hosting the third arch is the Togetherness collective aka Rob Marmott and DJ Marble who are legends for putting on
great parties in both Ibiza and London. With that set in stone, it?s going to be another sell out party. Don?t be disappointed ? get tickets

Shiloh - Bleed

Dubbed ?Breaks Men of the Moment? by Sasha, production whizzkids Shiloh are brothers Colin and Justin Moreh who have been kicking up a stir on the breaks scene over the past few years. After signing to the Electrofly label (Baroque records breakbeat sister) in 2003 their debut single ?Will U Ever Come Around? blew up instantly worldwide receiving massive support from the likes of James Zabiela, Sasha and Adam Freeland. This stunning debut lead to Radio One impresario Annie Nightingale asking them to compile a mix for her show, which then rocketed their name even further skywards.

Shiloh?s records have topped hype charts and record shop sales charts the world over ever since, and their name is one tipped with some of the most prolific and consistent producers out there. Their incredible body of work has now translated into a phenomenal live show, with live percussion, synthwork, and bass guitar, all based in a live midi controlled setup. Both brothers have also DJd alongside a list of who?s who in the profession, from Little Louis Vega to Paul Van Dyk, with Maya (aka Colin Moreh) getting equal billings alongside the likes of Danny Howells, Lottie and Max Graham in his native Canada.

?Bleed? is Shiloh?s first full length album and is the result of 18 months hard work, and features a huge selection of their original recordings on CD1, alongside some exclusive remixes & collaborations on CD2 with such production greats as Luke Chable, Infusion & David West.

Andy Cato presents Pack Up and Dance

 Images 2005 07 Cato
Groove Armada?s Andy Cato presents his exclusive UK monthly residency: ?Pack Up And Dance? @ Neighbourhood on Friday 12th May.
Pack Up And Dance ? the name says it all. The warehouse parties of the late 80’s and early 90’s are what inspired Cato to start his Pack Up And Dance project - not only the name of his new night, but also the name of his new label.

After holding two successful parties at Neighbourhood, Cato picked the club as his exclusive (UK) monthly outlet to strip it all back (the music, the d?cor, the lighting) and play the music that first inspired him. And the music inspires him now; a modern take on the old magic: ?Neighbourhood is the right home for Pack Up and Dance ? it?s small, intimate, dark and I get a great crowd that let me do what I want, musically, and just go with it. Taking a step forward is taking a step back. We?ve lowered the lights and pay attention to the visual experience. I’m working with live machines alongside the decks, making one off tracks in the club.? - Cato

Pack Up And Dance is the new project of Groove Armada?s Andy Cato. After holding successful parties in Italy, dates confirmed at Sonar in Barcelona and Ibiza this summer. His new, exclusive, monthly at Neghbourhood. And the label beginning to take shape with releases coming from Andy himself (the first release ?La Luna? was signed to Azuli) and Mike Monday, amongst others, there is little more to say than Pack Up and Dance.

Andy Cato presents Pack Up and Dance will be at Neighbourhood on May 12th www.packupanddance.com and www.myspace.com/packupanddance coming soon

8pm till 2.30am. ?10 advance / ?12 door. Tickets available from Ticketweb.co.uk 12 Acklam Rd, London, W10 (Ladbroke Grove/ Westbourne Grove).

Fort Dance Festival

Here?s one for the diary: set in an 19th century military fort located off the coast of Saint Petersburg that is accessible only by boat or helicopter, the Fort Dance Festival celebrates it?s 7th anniversary this summer by announcing it?s best event to date!

Fort Alexander I is one of the few remaining military bases left in the Gulf of Finland. Built over 200 years ago to protect St Petersburg from attack from invading armies, the fort itself is steeped in maritime history. On July 29th Fort Alexander I will be installed with state of the art lighting, production and killer sound systems to boot and will play host to the biggest annual celebration on the Russian clubbing calender!

The Fort Dance Festival attracts the cr?me de la cr?me of Russia?s most up for it party people with the party hungry masses rubbing shoulder with some of Russia?s beautiful people for a one-night dance extravaganza. With superstar DJ?s arriving by helicopter, the only way for party crew to arrive is via the regular boat service supplied by the event or for those with bigger, more ?expendable? incomes arriving by Yacht and mooring up by the party is the transport of choice.

Previous years events have welcomed Tiga, Lottie, Ti?sto, Leeroy Thornhill, Mark Spoon, Mylo (Live), Judge Jules, Mr.C, Paul Jackson and Sandra Collins and the announcement of this years line up is already drawing great interest from the Russian clubbing community.

Alongside a high level of production and a raw 120KW of sound the event itself will feature one main outdoor stage located at the centre of the venue and three separate music rooms (Tech, House & Electro) set amongst a citadel of corridors within the actual Fort itself. The party will also include amongst others a stunning ?mojito sunrise bar? on the roof of the fort, for the morning hours, private hire rooms set within the venue?s dungeons that come stocked with their very own topless dancers (optional!) and a VIP lounge and secret VVIP for the top level guests ensuring this party is simply like no other on the planet!

Fort Dance began in 2000 as a celebration of the developing Russian dance scene that has grown over the years to become Russia?s leading dance event and has legendary status amongst dance music fans in the country due to its stunning location, superb production and line up which combines some of the biggest names on the international DJ circuit alongside a whole host of Russia?s finest.

The dance scene began in Russia the mid 90?s as a very low level, underground scene and following a nationwide financial crisis at the end of the last century the scene has exploded out on the underground towards a mainstream audience. Only in the last few years has it been possible for promoters to throw large scale events booking international line ups with production to match. As Fort Dance is the only event of its kind in Russia, crowds flock from across the country to experience dance music en mass or the first time!

As UK interest towards international clubbing scenes and events grows, Russia is certainly one of the key territories and Fort Dance is one of the events to keep a close eye on in the future.

Hi:Fi South Charities named

HiFi South, the rock and dance festival which has replaced Homelands at the Matterley Bowl Estate over the last weekend in May, has chosen to support two charities, one national and one local to the festival site. The camping weekender which features Ian Brown, Hard-Fi, Sasha and Digweed and Paul Oakenfold is expected to attract over 25,000 music fans from all over the UK and ticket holders will be invited to give a cash donation towards these excellent causes.

The first charity is Naomi?s House, the children?s hospice based in Sutton Scotney, which provides respite for families and palliative care for under nineteen?s suffering from life-limiting illnesses. The second is Youth Music; a lottery-funded organisation that encourages under eighteen?s to take up music particularly those from socially deprived backgrounds.

Working with such charities enables the festival organisers to reinvest into both local community and the nation?s musical talent of the future. The Angel Music Group has a history of giving to important charitable organisations from the areas in which they host events: for instance, the Joseph Foote Organisation in Stratford-Upon-Avon has received nearly ?100,000 from Global Gathering events over the past five years. Andy Foote who set the charity up says ?Working with the Global Gathering festival organisers has been an incredible experience. Not only have they brought the issues of brain tumours in children to the attention of the public, but they have also raised money that has been invaluable for the work we do.?

Event organiser James Algate says:

?Supporting charities allows us to give something back to the communities that support our events. We raise thousands of pounds in charitable donations via our festivals and support charities that we believe in. We have nothing but admiration for Naomi?s House and will be looking to get involved with the hospice in as many ways as possible which includes encouraging our artists to perform in front of their residents. Youth Music does excellent work in exposing young incredible work, and I hope we can give them a significant cheque at the end of the event.?

All hospitality ticket holders will be invited to give a ?10 donation at the site entrance. These funds will be split between both charities. Charlotte Dunlap, The Events Manager from Naomi House says: ?Everyone at Naomi House is so excited about the festival and we are all delighted to be part of it. All the care we give is free of charge and as we receive no government funding being involved with such a fantastic event will put us a step nearer the ?2.5 million it costs every year to keep Naomi House open.?

Youth Music will be running a promotion to allow a local DJ under the age of 18 years to win a set at Hi:Fi South. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to play in front of a massive new audience on the same bill as legends such as Ian Brown, Hard Fi, Sasha and Digweed and 2ManyDjs. This initiative is hoped to inspire young people into taking up music. Richard Utting, Director of Fundraising & Development at Youth Music commented: “We are incredibly pleased to be working with the first ever Hi-Fi Festival to offer this unique prize for young musicians. The competition will give someone an unforgettable opportunity to perform with some credible and influential acts spanning all genres of contemporary music.?

Hot Chip - The Warning

  Media Ezvpdfwbv6Ecm2Lfz5D5Mk0Y7O3Br205 Image-800

Hot Chip
began their acclaimed 2004 debut Coming On Strong with heartfelt advice and a warning, ?Take care into the home?, before taking you for a musical ride around their own. They begin their astonishing sophomore record with a different kind of warning: ?FIRE IS HOT, STEEL CAN CUT /GLASS WILL BREAK IF YOU?RE NOT ? CAREFUL!??Triumphant and gloopy synths begin the frenetic and bewildering ?Careful?, giving way to rave rhythms, war drums, syrupy vocals, computed crowd chants and a song celebrating balloons and physical intimacy; the frenetic opening minutes of this truly adventurous record.

?Careful? cuts through the listener and represents a more confrontational sound for Hot Chip, usually found only in their visceral live show. The confrontation is echoed throughout the rest of the album, whose musical inventiveness almost pokes fun at the caution in the lyrics. Joe Goddard explains: ?The completion of ?Careful? was a major turning point in the process of making this album. I wanted it be a real departure from the first album, but Alexis and I were worried that the music we wanted to make was incompatible. Once we?d managed to complete this track together, though, it re-affirmed our belief that we could find common ground.?

Alexis Taylor and Joe Goddard began to work on the album in earnest. Out of the tension of these sessions, with the two songwriters / producers pulling against one another, there eventually emerged some great moments of beauty, laughter, love and slaughter. Where one man cannot talk of his pain, another can record it. And then fuck with it. Then you get Owen in to mash into the guitar like nobody else. And while Felix is pushing synthesizers through a ?Machinedrum?, quick, record him while he?s not looking, and Al can come over all Eno/Manzanera - he?s got nimble fingers and vocal chords. It?ll work, don?t worry. This became Hot Chip?s ?creative process?. And it really did work. But be careful, it’s crazy in there?

The Warning is an amalgamation of great songwriting and forward-thinking pop-production. It?s an honest record ? emotionally and sonically, made by people exploring sound in the warmth of home, not studio, and it is a brittle pairing of voices which sing of LOVE, COLOURS, LOSS, and WARNINGS. It is the only record you will hear this year, which is brave enough to try and better all of the best records of yesteryear and tomorrow. If you want something which evokes the textures of Aphex Twin recordings, Madlib?s sense of deranged hip-hop holiday, the intimacy of Prince?s fantastically claustrophobic parades, and more than merely the spirit of certain wonderful Paul McCartney experiments in disco (watch out EMI?), Hot Chip would recommend The Warning. It?s cheaper than buying the Richard D James Album, Madvillainy, Dirty Mind and McCartney II after all.

Of the title track, Joe explains: ??The Warning? comes from a real love of 2-step garage rhythms and melodies?the rhythmic devices used in programming garage appear everywhere in Hot Chip, and I still find some garage records to be amongst the funkiest and most soulful. ?While ?The Warning? insists that ?Hot Chip will break your legs, snap off your head? over a luxurious garage beat, ?Look After Me? speaks plainly of the growing distance between a couple, and acknowledges vulnerability and the need for unequivocal support between two people. Alexis: ?Ever since seeing it on The Box in the late 90s I had been hooked on Sparkle?s duet with R Kelly, ?Be Careful?. Eventually I tried to rip off the chord structure, melody and mood to make the beginnings of ?Look After Me?. For the middle-eight section?s descending chord progression I mimicked the synth-line in Prince?s ?If I Was Your Girlfriend? almost note for note. Joe heard what I thought was a take on the modern r?n?b ballad to be more in keeping with an old-fashioned soul classic of the Al Green ilk, and we were soon adding plucked live violins and very soft drumming.?

Somewhere between these unspoken ideas emerges an incredibly personal Hot Chip song, tying the record together at the centre and underpinning the album?s mood of caution and warning. But it?s also a song that openly borrows from other records in an attempt to make something new, encapsulating the duality of the Hot Chip sound, at once very ?felt?, and very considered.

The bathos of Coming On Strong is more often than not replaced by pathos in The Warning. ?And I Was A Boy From School?, a beautifully melancholy ballad of loss and acceptance, is Hot Chip?s greatest pop moment so far ? wonderful in its simplicity; heartbreaking in its honesty: ? We tried, but we didn?t have long, We tried but we didn?t belong??. But ?Boy From School? began life as a Casio waltz, before looking towards the spirit of Giorgio Moroder. Joe explains: ?’I Feel Love’ by Donna Summer was in my mind. I thought if you could combine that rhythmical power with a beautiful chorus then you could make a dance record that would be much better than most. In fact, the sound of the song is still very gentle, and though I now realize that that is something to be proud of, back then I wanted to compete with people like the DFA.?

One of the most unusual aspects of ?Boy From School?, and Hot Chip in general, is the direct contrasting of vocal styles, Alexis often taking the higher ‘female’ lead, and Joe the lower, ‘male’ response, in a world which recalls the classic soul or country and western duets of the past, but is clearly somewhere stranger altogether. And rather than rich harmonies, they create a denser texture, singing in direct unison, leaving the harmony to the instruments; the effect is quite unique.

The androgynous and yearning tone in Alexis? vocal performances, and the frailty and primitivism in certain drum sounds, have reminded some listeners of Scritti Politti or the Young Marble Giants, as much as the R Kelly or Wookie tracks that inspire some of the music. The space between conception and realisation is where you find Hot Chip; and it’s what makes them so distinctive, so fascinating. That and the fact that they are happy to leave imperfections in: ?The idea of including the inaccuracies that occur when people play instruments in the song is extremely important to us. It is the antithesis of a lot of modern record productions, where every mistake is ironed out digitally. When I think about the producers and songs that I really cherish, I think that certain rash decisions or mistakes in the playing or mixing are often the very things that I love.?

Hot Chip have made quite a leap with The Warning, in terms of sophistication and clarity. A deliberately simple tune and lyric, such as ?Colours?, transcends its initial child-like innocence to seem gorgeous and, somehow, profound. ?I wanted to write lyrics as direct as the ones you?d find in Kraftwerk songs. We?d just seen them at Brixton Academy and I was struck by how well they said something about motion or light, or radioactivity, in so few words.? (Alexis) ?For a while I wanted this album to sound a lot like Can or Neu - I wanted the propulsive force of the song to be powerful but seem effortless and for the keyboard sounds to be glistening and beautifully sculpted, in the way that Kraftwerk make their instruments sound. We were after simplicity and directness.? (Joe)

When Hot Chip started their album with a chorus that confides: ?The stories you told were awful /I hope that they weren?t just artful, /I hope that you will be careful?, you would be forgiven for thinking they could be writing about their own music, giving you a new warning. People have often mistaken what is at times an opaque, and other times a transparent honesty for something more sinister or ?artful? (God forbid, a sense of humour !), and the irony of this is not lost on the songwriters. But that is Hot Chip in a nutshell: musical perverts who know how to tease you just right, who are tender when you are just getting used to their brashness and confidence.

As ?The Warning? says, ?LET ME SPELL IT OUT FOR YOU?. This time round, you may be able to tell that Hot Chip?s tongues are deeper inside your cheeks than they are embedded in their own.

Hot Chip also play live, they have toured with people like LCD Soundsystem, Mylo, Stereolab & recently Goldfrapp and played their own shows/tours too of course. They will be doing stuff like that all year.

The Warning was recorded by Hot Chip at home.

Hot Chip are, Alexis Taylor, Joe Goddard, Al Doyle, Owen Clarke and Felix Martin

Binary Finary - The Lost Tracks

 00637 39 80 637850893 L

With dance music currently overwhelmed by house music, there is extremely good news for the trance scene. Binary Finary return with their long awaited artist album The Lost Tracks.

It has been eight years since the masterminds behind the seminal trance epic ‘1998′ mysteriously disappeared. The Binary Finary duo, aka Matt Laws and Stuart Matheson, were caught up in internal power struggles with other members of the Binary Finary group, over the all too common music business problems that surround huge hits, such as ‘1998′.

Now out of the dark comes ‘The Lost Tracks’ - a selection of 16 tracks created by Matt and Stuart during this 8 year sabbatical. Binary Finary’s passion and ear for great music is reflected in this album. Known of course, for their classic trance sound, this album shows a maturity and range of styles which will surprise many. Two years alone were spent just on sampling and creating original sounds for this album, as well as on material for forthcoming DJ sets and Live PA’s. The end result has made this well worth the wait!

‘The Lost Tracks’ is an album that takes a journey through trance, electronica and progressive sounds. These tracks have never been heard before and some are still in the old skool state in which they were first created. The album marks Binary Finary’s historical and emotional journey, from their time in hiding, to their re-emergence as producers to be reckoned with.

This album is upfront and available as download only. It comes in both mixed and unmixed formats for the die-hard clubber and digital DJ alike. There is also the choice to download selected tracks from the album - something no other artist is doing. One of the most exciting tracks on the album has to be the Binary Finality Mix of the seminal classic ‘1998′- never heard before and a fitting update of this amazing track!

The Lost Tracks will be available for download from the 1st of May 2006.

Hernan Cattaneo - Sequential

South America’s top DJ Hernan Cattaneo after two hugely successful Masters Series volumes is taking inspiration from his favourite tunes of the moment to bring
Sequential that highlights Renaissance?s commitment to working with creative forces.

Agentina’’s premium DJ, Hernan Cattaneo had been taken under the wing by Paul Oakenfold in the late nineties and saw Hernan introduced to Europe and saw him open up new ears and led to him playing alongside the likes of Carl Cox, Darren Emerson and Danny Tenaglia. and at No.7 in DJ mag’s 2005 Top 100, Hernan’s career keeps going from strength to strength and Sequential confirms his status as a leader rather than a follower…

The Sequential double CD features Hernan and John Tonk’s exclusive remix of the now classic Renaissance anthem by Phonique Feat. Er Lend Oye, plus exclusive material from Tommyboy & Mannel and Rocco Mundo & Onno, all seamlessly woven between fresh cuts from the likes of Way Out West, Bushwacka!, Slam and Paolo Mojo, plus many more direct from his lauded record bag. Hernan’s impeccable musical selection transcends genres with a sound that is truly unique, a heady combination of rolling bass lines and ethereal breakdowns.

Never ones to scrimp on packaging Renaissance have commissioned highly acclaimed photographer John Ross for the album artwork. Having created previous famous images for Kylie, The Manic Street Preachers and Deep Dish, he will ensure that Sequential is set to be an all-round sensory delight.
