The Gallery Weekender - This Easter

Turnmills Admin Images Logos Turnmills Logo

Despite clocking up party number 572 in a few weeks time at The Gallery?s 11th Birthday bash (28th April) and having seen and done just about all there is to do in clubland over this time, London?s enchanting Friday night party goes for the jugular on the Easter Bank Holiday Weekend with its first ever ?Saturday night? event at its EC1 home. Trainspotters take note; never before has Turnmills witnessed the strength of The Gallery on a Saturday… so on Friday 14th and Saturday 15th April get ready for ?The Gallery Weekender? - an epic 2 night event featuring dancefloor heroes past and present.

Friday 14th April is more your traditional Gallery line-up (where we?re at musically at the moment), whilst Saturday 15th April digs a little deeper into the record collection - as we take a step back in time to the DJs who first laid the original foundations and made The Gallery the club it is today.

Gallery regulars Marco V, Above & Beyond and Matt Hardwick provide the main room firepower on Good Friday, offering the finest in tech-trance and driving hands-in-the-air euphoric business! Rising stars Bruno Cernecca and Justin Atkinson show their support with the last and first sets accordingly. Meanwhile in T2, backroom residents Soundworx continue their monthly underground blitz with their biggest line-up to date! America?s rising superstar Steve Porter headlines (launching his new album in the process), joining the brilliant Peace Division ? which means the dark drums of DC10?s Clive Henry ? and the ever so hot Omid 16b. Crikey! T3 sees the Vaccine crew return for their monthly trance fix with special guest Yves Deruyter stepping up to the table. He joins Vaccine residents The Viceroy and Ben Beaton, with support from Ben Gold and Alan Banks, whilst up in the rather spanking VIP Room, Filthybeats.com supply the err, filthy beats.

For the first time ever, The Gallery then puts on its party hat for the second consecutive night (Saturday 15th April) as the Turnmills doors swing open for another mouth-watering session. This time round The Gallery takes a retrospective look back at those heady days gone by featuring 13 of The Gallery most legendary DJs. 13 might be an unlucky number for most, but in this case, 13 is the number of clubland giants who?ll be bringing the sounds of the mid to late 90?s back to The Gallery for one very special night.

Spread across 3 dancefloors, the hub of the action will take place in the main room where Gallery Heroes Tall Paul and Steve Lee (who both still play at The Gallery at least once a month) will be in charge of proceedings. The deadly duo will be ?Rocking Da House? as they welcome back Past Masters Sonique, Jeremy Healey and Alistair Whitehead to tear up the decks, as The Gallery faithful lap up the old skool house and trance. If you hot foot it over to T2, you?ll then discover more Gallery ?faces?, as Jon Pleased Wimmin, Mark Moore, Lisa Loud and Al Mackenzie play the more handbag side of house (gosh ? remember that?!), whilst in T3 its all about the acid house beats of old ? courtesy of former Shoom resident Nicky Holloway, plus John Kelly, Luke Neville and Nancy Noise. This night really is the stuff of legends. One for the history books for sure.

Lady Sovereign

 Blog2 Wp-Content Photos Ladysov

Lady Sovereign is set to release the ?Blah Blah? EP on Island Records on the 17th of April 2006. The EP features four tracks, including an exclusive live recording, a remix by a Beastie Boy and hints at what to expect from her forthcoming debut album ?Public Warning?, which is set for release this Summer.

Lead track, ?Blah Blah? was played as a raw demo by Zane Lowe and Steve Lamacq in 2004. Since then it?s been produced by Basement Jaxx and showcases the wit and flow of the sharpest MC in the country. The lyrics reflect the mixed reactions Sov received when she first started MC-ing and how she dealt with those reactions.

?A Little Bit Of Shhh!? was initially a 500 copy white-label 12? Sov put out herself with independent distribution in April 2004. The ?80 video was a huge hit at Channel U and gave a lot of people their first taste of Lady Sovereign. This version remixed by the legendary Ad Rock of The Beastie Boys, appears on Sovereign?s US independent release the ?Vertically Challenged? EP, which since it?s release 10 weeks ago has sold 20,000 units and is on it?s third re-press.

?Public Warning? was recorded with Sov?s live band at The Roundhouse in Manchester on her UK tour in November 2005. Sov?s favourite track from the forthcoming album and the finale of her live show ?Public Warning? features elements of drum and bass, rock and grime. A mix of tempos, ?Public Warning? shows off Sov?s versatility to mix different styles in one stand-out track, as Sov puts it, it?s her ?Bohemian Rhapsody?.

?Drunk On Radiation? is a completely random, one-take, off the hook freestyle. Inspired by a bizarre late-night rooftop experience at her producer Medasyn?s studio. The combination of vertigo, a cheeky Pernod and the radiation straying from the roof?s telephone masts went straight to Sov?s head, she went back down to the studio, got on the mic and recorded this freestyle.

Lady Sovereign is currently working with a couple of serious A-list producers completing her debut album. Since being head-hunted in late-2005 by no better judge of a rapper than the iconic Jay-Z she signed to Island/Def Jam/Rocafella Records in the United States, becoming Def Jam?s first Non-US signing since Slick Rick! One of the world?s most anticipated new artists Sov recently graced the covers of URB, FADER, LA TIMES, I-D and VENUS magazine.

Tracklisting:
1. Blah Blah
2. A Little Bit Of Shhh! (Smallstars remixby Ad Rock)
3. Public Warning (Live)
4. Drunk On Radiation (Freestyle)

Skolbeats 2006

 Reviews Skolbeats2004 Noise-@-Skolbeats-2004-1
Summer is but a stone?s throw away, and of course that means that one of the biggest dance festivals on the planet is coming to Sao Paolo, and 2006?s Skolbeats is shaping up to be the biggest yet. Over 57,000 people attended Skolbeats in 2005 making it the most successful year in the events? history, and with the release of the new line-up for this year?s festival, we are sure to be inundated with music- hungry revellers once again.

Special guests for this year include local hero DJ Marky who is bringing his branded event Marky & Friends to host the D&B Arena with special guests Andy C, DJ Hype and Makoto and EKSman, Dynamite and Stamina. DJ Marky has continued to impress crowds with his no holds barred mixing style and energetic stage presence. There is an added incentive to excel this year though as the set is being recorded live to be released as a special edition CD & DVD mix album in the summer. DJ Patife also intends to give his fans an insight into the life of the touring DJ with a view from behind the decks at a packed festival. DJ Patife?s new album Na Estrada is at the pressing plants and a DVD, recorded live (with a full 8-piece band) at Skolbeats 2006 will accompany the album.

The END once again host their own Arena, supplying a special brand of Techno and House with appearances from TIGA and Timo Maas to name a few. Also guesting for The END are Loco Dice and the auspicious Sven Vath.

For the first time Skolbeats is proud to announce that the world famous DJ Magazine will be hosting its very own Arena this year and it?s truly something to warrant excitement. With a line-up that includes such legendary heavyweights as Armin Van Buuren, Gabriel & Dresden, Steve Angello and Martin Solveig, and local stars like Gabo, DJ Magazine intends to set themselves up for life with an army of dedicated Brasilian dance troops.

Last but by no means least is the knockout Live Stage, which comes armed to the teeth this year with the unrelenting LCD Soundsystem, an appearance from live music visionaries The Bays and Plump Djs. The Prodigy headline the Festival with their sell-out show. Also on the main stage Renato Cohen presents his brand new Live show, Julio Torres takes his house music live with his CrossOver project and local stars Gui Boratto and Drumagick also add to the impressive line-up. Closing the festivities will be the formidable Anderson Noise. A veritable Techno legend in brazil, Anderson is looking to finish off the festival in style with a special set B2B with fellow superstar Mau Mau.

With 17 hours of non-stop music, Skolbeats 2006 should prove once again Brazil is firmly leading the way for dance music in the new millennium.

Superfreq vs. Deepdownanddirty at The End & AKA

Img Photo Galleries Cocoon Mar06 Photo8

Two of London?s most exciting club nights are teaming up for a three room special Bank Holiday onslaught. The legendary Mr C?s Superfreq, and London?s underground monster that is Deepdownanddirty, will come together on Sunday April 16th for a showdown to be reckoned with!

Deepdownanddirty is now in to its fourth year, and has rapidly evolved in to one of the capital?s best and most innovative electronic music nights. They started life in a Shoreditch basement, and as their following grew, they moved to Herbal, then on to the Bridge & Tunnel, and landed at The Key in late 2003. Their events at The Key have earned them an unblemished reputation for great lineups. Rather than relying on big names, Deepdownanddirty have put faith in their hugely popular and talented residents, and in unearthing the best talent bubbling on the underground both domestically and internationally.

For their End debut, Deepdownanddirty have pulled out all the stops with a typically inventive lineup that includes a headline performance in the main room from electro house rising stars Dirt Crew alongside Spanish tech-house supreme Alex Under and original residents Simon Morell and Simon Baker. Meanwhile the obscenely talented Belgian duo Spirit Catcher will be taking care of the lounge with help from Germany?s Boys Noize, famed for his awesome remix of Bloc Party?s ?Banquet?, and resident Ryan Shaw.

Meanwhile, Superfreq will host AKA with their weekly electro house shindig. Residents Mr C and the irrepressible Dollz at Play will be lining up alongside an extra special guest. The new Superfreq format has been eagerly embraced by it?s following, with members granted the opportunity to receive notification of the special guest every week by text or e mail and receive a discounted rate. For this Bank Holiday one-off, Mr C has guaranteed the services of a suitably iconic guest, the only way to find out who is to become a Superfreq member!

There?s no better excuse than a Bank Holiday for a weekend of pure hedonism, and no setting is more fitting for it than a deep, down and dirty party for superfreqs!

The End & AKA ? Sunday 16th April 2006 ? Superfreq vs Deepdownanddirty - 2200/0600 - ?15 / ?10 Superfreq members

Main Room: Spirit Catcher (Live), Boys Noize, Ryan Shaw
Lounge: Dirt Crew (Live), Alex Under, Simon Baker, Simon Morell & guests

Groove Armada at The End

 Entrevistas2003 Groove Armada-2

On Saturday 15th April Groove Armada make a rare London appearance, stepping back in to The End?s hallowed DJ booth for an unmissable back to back DJ performance from Tom Findlay and Andy Cato.

Responsible for some of the best and most enduring electronic music of the last 10 years, Groove Armada have enjoyed dance-floor hits too numerous to mention. Recently selling out five Brixton Academy shows in one year, they are indisputably one of the most in-demand live acts in the world. They are also the driving force behind the ultra-popular Lovebox Festival, one of the UK?s biggest and best independent events, which last summer had 23,000 people through the gates of Victoria Park in Hackney to see a massive range of DJs and live acts, as well as the event?s crowning glory; the Groove Armada headline set. Tom has also found time to set up Tunetribe, one of the most dynamic download portals on the net, geared towards supporting new independent music, and the artists producing it.

In the main room, the Groove Armada boys will play a pure party set typical of their sound; a unique mix of classics; both past, present and future. They will be ably supported by Lovebox cohort Adrian Fillary. Meanwhile in the lounge, breakbeat stalwarts Ali B and Elite Force will be keeping things bouncing with their upfront breaks and beats aimed squarely at the dance floor.

Upstairs in AKA, Ross Allen presents his new event concept ?Meltdown?, which will feature all kinds of music as it makes its way across the best venues in London. Starting at AKA, ?Meltdown?s first guest will be 1Xtra star Benji B, who will be serving up similarly sublime sounds from right across the musical spectrum. Expect anything with a slice of funk and a beat to make you move!

This party is going to be one to remember. Groove Armada, back at The End: it?s time for some superstylin??

Dreadzone On Tour 2006

Dreadzone Live Press[2]

Now in the their fourteenth year Dreadzone have seen many different trends come and go as well as an ever-changing line up which has ensured their sound has always stayed fresh and consistent in quality.

Since those early days they have notched up in excess of 125k album sales, created a reputation for a stunning live show and garnered support from legends such as Annie Nightingale and the late, great John Peel .

They were the originators of a unique sound that has left a lasting impression on an ever-growing fan base. Now in 2006 founder member Greg Dread alongside Ben Balafonic, the unmistakable M.C Spee, legendary reggae vocalist Earl 16 , the original bassmaster Leo Williams and guitarist Steve Roberts continue to hold the stage with the awesome live show, once again fusing technology, live rhythm section and classic tunes both old and new to deliver a new live sound formula for their fifth album ?Once Upon A Time? which was released last September .

The Dreadz have come a long way since 1993 and the first album 360? on Creation, moving on to the success of the seminal ?Second Light? album on Virgin, through the follow up of ?Biological Radio? and into the next chapter which saw the creation of a club night ?Dubwiser?, a club 12? with Fingerlickin Records and their fourth album ?Sound? through hip hop label Rufflife.

A following productive period saw the birth of the Dreadzone Sound System, which pushed the ?DJ? perspective further, ensuring they stayed at the cutting edge and shaping their new material throughout the last few years, leading to the first release on their new label Functional, with Dreadzone Sound System?s DJ mix album ?Beatz & Bobz Volume 4? dropping in Feb 2005.

Last year saw the ?Return Of The Dread? on to the live circuit playing to many thousands at festivals, including Glastonbury ,The Glade, Carling Reading and Leeds , Beautiful Days and The Wickerman, whilst the UK tour ran from October to November and with singles from the album ,King Dub Rock and Once Upon A Time in Jamaica 05 saw the band truly back in business.

The album ?Once Upon A Time? reflects where they are right now with the most vibrant single release so far from the new album ?Elevate? released in March to coincide with live dates that will continue throughout the year.
