There?s something fishy going on at Together?s Aquatic Adventure on Bank Holiday Saturday 29th April, as we go deep beneath the surface for a nautical musical discovery. Fresh from March?s ?Some Mothers Do ?Ave It? party (where the ?Best Dressed Mum? won a top of the range sewing machine!), we?ll be making a right splash this month as Together presents ?Enchantment Under the Sea? and welcomes some very special sea creatures to our blue lagoon.
The main room will feature a rare UK set from global techno pioneer John Acquaviva. The Acqua-holic has been immersed in clubland since the late 70?s and during that time he?s graced the decks of more than 2000 clubs worldwide. Since the turn of the millennium, Acquaviva?s has also branched out beyond the core of DJing and production, becoming instrumental in the discovery and launch of pioneering music technology - Finalscratch (DJ Tool) and Beatport.com (the worlds leading electronic music download service). Dive head first into our underwater soundscape and you?ll also unearth hot electro mermaids Chicks on Speed (DJ Set) and Together big fish Justin Robertson, who?s back in the hotseat this month. Meanwhile, newbie Dan Van Damn gets a chance to sparkle in the sea light, as he debuts early on. We stumbled across one of his mixes on The Chemical Brothers? forum and was so impressed that we thought we?d throw him in at the deep end!
Things should go swimmingly from here, as Turnmills? former weekly club night Headstart rears its eclectic head in T2 for a one-off sea battle versus Carbon Records. Before its demise, Headstart was revolutionary in helping catapult the careers of Groove Armada, Darren Emerson, Andrew Weatherall, Richard Fearless & Dave Clarke to name a few. Headstart was also the home of weekly residents FC Kahuna, and this month Dan & Jon will be returning to their old stomping ground for a bit of a session! Nag Nag Nag?s delightful JoJo De Freq joins the Kahuna brothers behind the decks - as she skillfully mixes tuneful techno, electro-disco and synthetic house, whilst Polish sharks 3 Channels (Cross Town Rebels) supply the murky and minimal beats to finish things off. But before all that, Carbon Records? Mike Oman will be in charge of firing up the floor as the doors swing open and the troops come rushing in.
A short Stealth swim onto T3 will lead you to a very special guest spot from Drum & Bass legend Roni Size. The man behind Full Cycle records and the Mercury-Award winning Reprazent project (which spawned classic cuts ? ?Brown Paper Bag, Heroes? and ?Watching Windows?) will be joined by Hospital Records? amazing London Elektricity ? who?s current track ‘Remember The Future? is already one of the biggest tracks of 2006. The very ?Sincere? MJ Cole gets in the action too, with Youngsta warming up and Fozz, Ayah & Task acting as hosts for the night.
FishseeksBicycle will be on hand to supply some well deserved crazy air up stream in the Cinema Lounge… before you hit dry land up in Topfloor, where the rocking Rokit people spin some more rockabilly (courtesy of The Wonderstuff), around a live acoustic set from Dot Allison (One Dove). Cult mag, Full Moon Sports Bag will be co-hosting the evening?s entertainment which includes amusing tales from old skool eastender Mick The Finder. Chris? Amazing Advice Booth will also be available for naughty sea monsters to confess their fins, sorry sins, plus Ollie & Gav?s Traveling Cockney Knees Up is back by popular demand for another drunken sing-along. Drink like a fish, take the bait. Ice creams and the sand pit will be located on the prom - deck chairs next to decks. Blow my barnacles this is gonna be oceanic…
Be Stupid and Win Stuff!!
We?ve already had the raffle, the Hat Brigade and most recently the Best Dressed Mum?s, so what have we got up our sleeves for April?s Aquatic Adventure I hear you ask?? Well, the clue?s in title really innit. We want fish. We want octopus people. We want snorkels. We want bikini?s. We want sea creatures. We want sailors. We want beach huts. We want rubber rings. We want yellow submarines. We want deep sea divers. We want inflatable dingys. We want whales. We want mermaids. We want arm bands. We want Baywatch. We want hermit crab?s. We want speedos. We want sunken ships. We want buried treasure. We want YOU…
There is no Dress Code really, other than we want you to use your wildest imagination to come up with whatever outfit works best for you? remember it?s the ?Enchantment under the Sea? party ? so some sort of Aqua-esuqe look could be the one! Dolphins are most definitely welcome. The sillier the better really. The 3 funniest/most outrageous outfits will then fight it out to win this lot on the night:

On April 8th Carl Cox And Friends touch down at Ahoy for a celebration of electronic music, with 12,000 of his friends in tow.
Carl says, ?It isn?t like one DJ performing for twelve hours, it?s a combination of great production, the best possible music and a real element of performance, like a live drummer, vocalist or guitar player on stage. Adding a live element to a party of this nature can go two ways - people are going to love it or hate it. I think we definitely pulled it off on the first and second events (this is the third Ahoy festival). It?s as big as a traditional rock concert, only led by DJs. ?
Carl concludes: ?In 2006 there are a lot people still thinking that the dance scene is dead, finished and done with, and here I am with my first two large scale solo events with over 12,000 people going mad.? His top billing at Coachella, alongside pop and rock?s luminaries goes one step further to prove the point.

Since launching in the capital at the end of February, Sunday mornings at Turnmills have fast become Veryveryverywrongindeed. Tim Sheridan?s brand new creation has already stamped its mark on the after hours scene, attracting a colourful mix of club freaks, muscle Mary?s, Italian stallions, Ring masters and TV heads to its dancing door. Intent on bringing some Ibiza flavoured Balearic Darkness to murky ol? London, there?s a whole lot of wrongness going on over in EC1 right now, with more naughtiness on the way as the word gets out.
Musically its bang on the money. Depending on your mood (and state of mind!) it?s a toss up between the underground filth of T2 (downstairs), or the disco-pop choons of the chill out lounge upstairs. It?s Saturday night line-ups for a Sunday morning crowd and Sergeant Sheridan and his gang of residents on rotation (plus special surprise guests) have certainly shown their musical intent so far. Whether it?s a case of heads down, eyes up front downstairs or some rather silly star-jumping upstairs, there?s something for everyone, and that?s without mentioning the ice poles, free goodies or break-dancing security. Oh I just did. Bugger.
Everyone is welcome and are all encouraged. If it?s weird and it?s wonderful, then it?s veryveryverywrongindeed. God help us all. Sunday mornings will never be the same.
DJs on rotation:
Clive Henry (DC10/Peace Division)
Jo Mills (Attica Singapore)
Tim Sheridan (Nastydirtysexmusic)
Issst (Berlin/London)

Utah Saints
David Phillips (We Love?/The Rock Ibiza)
Cass & Mangan (Fine Records Berlin)

Johnny Arthur (Chicken Nickers)

Three new artists have been added to the southern leg of the brand new Hi:Fi festival: Lemon Jelly, My Robot Friend and Kharma 45 now complete the line ups for
Hi:Fi South 2006
Hi:Fi South is a camping weekender that takes place over two days from 27th-28th May at the legendary Matterley Bowl Estate in Hampshire, made famous by the Homelands festival which took place in the same site over the same weekend. The festival coincides with the last bank holiday in May and will officially kick start the Summer?s music calendar.
Lemon Jelly, My Robot Friend and Karma 45 will join the likes of Ian Brown and Hard-Fi who are headlining the festival as well as Super Furry Animals and Go Team. Lemon Jelly have been nominated for Brits and Mercury Awards but are best known for their handcrafted sonic collages which sample English brass bands, nursery rhymes and classic, leftfield, downtempo electronica. My Robot Friend looks just like his music sounds: wires burst out of head and body and his sound fuses bleeps and glitches resulting in upbeat synth techno. Kharma 45 are a northern Irish band who have been snapped up by Atlantic because of their sharp, hard-edge sound that fuses electronica, dance and classic indie.
Hi:Fi is the UK?s first ever rock and dance festival. The world?s biggest DJs are also performing including Paul Oakenfold, Sasha and Digweed (Back to Back), Mylo, Erick Morillo, Carl Cox, Roni Size and 2ManyDJs.
Seven state-of-the-art arenas will be erected to house the cross spectrum of dance and live music. Whether it?s drum and bass or hands in the air euphoric house, Hi:Fi organisers have made sure there?s something for all musical tastes. The event will also feature a quality bill of non-musical entertainment including chill out areas, fun fairs, cinema?s, the Hed Kandi VIP and the Laptastic late night lap dancing arena.

?You are the best. You are the worst. You are average. Your love is a part of you. You try to give it away because you cannot bear its radiance, but you cannot separate it from yourself. To understand your fellow humans, you must understand why you give them your love. You must realize that hate is but a crime-ridden subdivision of love. You must reclaim what you never lost. You must take leave of your sanity, and yet be fully responsible for your actions.? -Gnarls Barkley, in a letter to the legendary rock critic Lester Bangs
So who is Gnarls Barkley? Diligent pen pal to Bangs, soul giant Isaac Hayes, and Violent Femmes ringleader Gordon Gano? Well-kept romantic consort to pop stars Mariah Carey and Janet Jackson? English teacher to synth-rock legends Kraftwerk? Croupier at a mysterious annual gathering in the Bay Area that allegedly draws members of the Wu-Tang Clan and Britian’s Stuckist art collective? It seems that, in the music world, Gnarls Barkley is always nearby yet impossible to find. The membership rolls of both the Atlanta hip hop collective Dungeon Family and Athens, Georgia?s psychedelic enclave Elephant Six list Barkley as an affiliate, but mention him to either group and they?ll shoot each other frightened looks and start talking basketball. The rumors fly hard in every direction and remain defiantly unverifiable.
Clinton Jacks works as a cook in a Waffle House restaurant near the South Carolina coast. ?One night back in the year 2000,? he recollects, ?I saw Danger Mouse come in here. Cee-Lo was with him. And they had this other dude with them, dressed up like H.R. Pufnstuf. Danger Mouse and Cee-Lo ate big meals, but H.R. Pufnstuf only wanted hash browns. Then they left, Danger Mouse and Cee-Lo, but H.R. Pufnstuf stayed around for hours. He must?ve had twenty cups of coffee. I went in the bathroom, and when I came out, he was gone. But he left a $500 tip on the table. And he left a little note that said, ?Compliments to the chef. Gnarls Barkley.??
Danger Mouse, a/k/a Brian Burton, produced the infamous Grey Album, a full-length blend of the Beatles? music and Jay-Z?s raps that became a cult classic after it was suppressed by EMI. He recently garnered a Grammy nomination for Producer of the Year for his work with the ?virtual band? Gorillaz. Having recorded with enigmatic rapper MF DOOM, not to mention a cast of voices from ?Adult Swim?, Danger Mouse is no stranger to outsized characters. He admits that he helped out with St. Elsewhere, the first album credited to Gnarls Barkley. ?A lot of people ask me about him,? says Danger Mouse when the topic arises. ?He found one of my Pelican City records, which was this downtempo experimental stuff I did in college, and I started getting letters from him. He?s not [Blur frontman and Gorillaz co-creator] Damon Albarn ? I can blow that myth out of the water for you. A lot of people think he lives in South Carolina. Personally, I think you?d be more likely to find him in Europe.?
From beneath his shroud, Burton’s spiritual adviser, the usually silent ?Dr. President?, murmurs something unintelligible and then??Not that I know where he is.?
Cee-Lo Green, a/k/a Thomas Calloway, is a Dungeon Family alumnus, once-and-future member of Goodie Mob and a wildly eclectic solo artist. His music is steeped in the gospel and blues traditions of the Southeast, merging timeless soul with experimental funk and hip hop. He confirms reports that his dramatic voice and soul-rummaging lyrics appear on portions of St. Elsewhere. ?Yes, I believe that I sang on at least some of the Gnarls Barkley record,? he says. ?But we are not the same person. I am Cee-Lo. I am a humble trumpet, and the wind of God blows through me. You might consider Gnarls the spit valve on the trumpet, were you inclined to consider him at all.? As he walked away, Cee-Lo could be heard to mutter, ?You want to know who he is? He?s the dude who owes me thirty-five dollars, that?s who he is.?
Does St. Elsewhere shed light on this mysterious personage, or does it further obscure him? It?s a complex record, to be sure. It employs the full spectra of pop music and human emotion. The warm, breezy single ?Crazy? and the spry finger-snapper ?Smiley Faces? recall “Songs In The Key Of Life” and ?Good Vibrations? in equal measure. ?On Line,? a lament for the lonely and ambitious, could be a tricked-out G-funk holdover. Often dark and unpredictable, St. Elsewhere nevertheless retains its sense of joy throughout. Even Cee-Lo?s darker moments, his introspection on ?Necromancer?, and the chilling ?Just A Thought,? on which our hero fights off suicidal ideation, flourish in their lush, funky surroundings. It constantly shifts its shape and never sacrifices momentum. And it contains a mess of contradictory clues about just who Gnarls Barkley actually is.
?I?ve made him my life?s work,? says Milton Pawley, a Los Angeles music writer widely considered the world?s leading Barkley scholar. ?And even with all the evidence I?ve gathered, I?m still not sure he really exists. Maybe Gnarls Barkley isn?t a person. Maybe he?s out there in the wind. Maybe he?s inside of all of us. Like ?Bob? from Twin Peaks, only more funky and less evil.?
Perhaps Gnarls Barkley will never fully reveal himself. But if St. Elsewhere is any indication, his music bears Marvin Gaye?s depth of feeling, Jeff Buckley?s emotive theatrics, and wild courage not seen since Prince?s prime. Behold the most exciting debut of 2006. A psychedelic soul masterpiece. Gnarls Barkley may not be easily located, but he won?t be a stranger.

Deep Dish enjoyed a phenomenal 2005. The release and worldwide success of ?Say Hello?, and their artist album, ?George Is On?, which in the UK received plaudits from DJ mag, Arena, Radio 1, the Sunday Mirror and many more, cemented them as one of the greatest dance outfits in the world. Dubfire and Sharam also received another Grammy nomination, and completed an unprecedented global tour that sold-out in every territory they visited (the 2006 leg has just begun).
Following the release of the ?Sacremento EP? in November, the duo is ready to release the track everyone?s been waiting for. ?Dreams?, featuring new vocals from Stevie Nicks, has been a staple of Deep Dish?s DJ sets in Ibiza and beyond, and a firm favourite from an album that has already given them Top 5 and Top 15 UK hits.
Recorded last year in Los Angeles, ?Dreams? was given the seal of approval from long-time Dish fan Pete Tong, who entered the fray first, making the Axwell mix his first Essential New Tune of 2006 on his Radio 1 show. Couple this with No.1?s in both the Buzz and Cool Cuts charts, and you?ve got a major hit in the making. In addition to the much-loved original version, Deep Dish also turn in storming dub mix.
The remix package is one of the finest you?ll find this year. Led by Axwell?s stunning rework, DJ Simi & Masterkeys, from Italy?s legendary club, Angels Of Love, go for tripped out vocal and dub mixes, Dean Coleman opts for an electro vocal remake that brings in dischordant keys and signature acid touches, Tocadisco take to the controls with a string-drenched remix, and finally, the Miami Calling mix adds a chunky bassline, chiming guitars and a hint of indie-pop.

The magnificent Metro Weekender returns to London this summer with it?s biggest line-up yet and another mouth-watering two day outdoor event spread across the August Bank Holiday weekend. 40,000 party people will again be flocking to Clapham Common, as South West Four resume dance duties on Saturday 26th August, whilst the indie/dance/comedy loving Get Loaded in the Park continue the party on Sunday 27th August.
Since their inception in 2004, South West Four and Get Loaded in the Park have become a firm fixture on the capital?s party calendar. Last year?s sell-out events witnessed live performances from the likes of The Happy Mondays, Stereo MCs, The Farm, Flowered Up and The Infadels, with DJ sets from some of the biggest in the business including Fatboy Slim, Paul Oakenfold, Carl Cox, Sasha and John Digweed. This year?s line-up look set to dwarf even last year?s epic two-dayer, with the names of those set to be involved being announced exclusively at the two festival launch parties being held at the Carling Brixton Academy and Turnmills over the Easter Weekend (15/16 April - see below for full details).
The Metro Weekender 2006 will see a number of changes this year, most notably seeing the official merger between South West Four and Get Loaded in the Park. As a result, joint weekend tickets will be sold for the first time this year, with every effort being made to ensure that both days will be even better and more enjoyable than ever before.
Get Loaded promoter Danny Newman discusses the new joint venture, ?we are extremely pleased to have joined forces with our pals at South West Four. It makes complete sense and will mean that rather than competing with South West Four, we can instead put our combined strength into both days, making this year?s Metro Weekender the biggest and the best yet.?
THE METRO WEEKENDER COMES TO CARDIFF
We can also reveal that both day events will be doubling up on the same August Bank Holiday weekend in Cardiff this summer for the very first time. As we continue to expand and evolve, this special two day event will be held at the Cooper?s Field site (where Radio 1 hosted two of their own ?Weekender? events there a few years back) with a capacity of 10,000 per day. Get Loaded in the Park will be first up on Saturday 26th August, with South West Four making the trip down the M4 on Sunday 27th August. Both Cardiff events will mirror the London shows, but on a smaller scale.
*** Tickets for the Metro Weekender 2006 - Get Loaded in the Park & South West Four officially go on sale at 9am on Monday 8th May 2006.
THE OFFICIAL LAUNCH PARTIES
The South West Four launch party takes at the Carling Brixton Academy on Saturday 15th April for an evening of audio delights featuring one of the biggest DJs on the planet: Carl Cox. Carl enjoyed last summers event so much he immediately asked to this year, not just to DJ, oh no, but to officially host this year?s event. Not wanting to do things by half, Carl is also the official figurehead for this summers event and will perform an exclusive 4 Hour Set on the night to officially launch South West Four 2006 alongside a stage show set to blow you away. Expect explosive stage shows, performers and festival oddities, in addition to more hot deck action from The End?s Superfreq star Mr C and Tim ?Nastydirtysexmusic? Sheridan. The foyer will see London?s hottest new breaks event Platform 12 turn up the bass as they welcome heavyweight DJ/Producers Meat Katie, Future Funk Squad (Audio Damage album launch party), Ali B, plus residents Clive Morley, Lady Killer and Travis Lucas ensuring Brixton Academy is rocked to its very foundations! More DJs and guest hosts to be announced soon.
Meanwhile, Turnmills will be the scene for Get Loaded in the Park?s big launch bash, which hits the place where the Get Loaded story first began on Sunday 16th April. The launch party will feature some of the stars of GLITP05 alongside a host of hot new heroes for 2006. Then night offers its very own mini-festival, with 5 rooms of fun & games, live acts, DJs and comedy to explore and get stuck into! Look out for DJ sets from the Stereo MCs, The Dead 60s, Bez (Happy Mondays), The Juan Maclean Cagedbaby, Clor, John Kennedy (X-FM), Kid Carpet, Jeff Automatic, the Backstage Sluts and the Broken Hooker Deejays, with special live performances from Get Loaded hosts The Cuban Brothers, Deaf Stereo (who supported Mylo on his UK Tour last year) and Waxed Apple, an outrageously cool new band from Brighton who count LCD Soundsystem amongst their biggest fans, plus Metro Riots. Meanwhile up in the charming Topfloor room, the ?most sophisticated drugs baron of all time?; Howard Marks will be performing an exclusive ?Audience with?? as he performs a new sketch taken from his forthcoming book. He?ll be joined by the world famous Comedy Store who continue their love affair with GLITP with gags and giggles galore - courtesy of three of their finest stand up comics. Other highlights include the Get Loaded Easter Egg Hunt and the not-to-be-missed laughing gas room hosted by our nitrous oxide friends Fishseeksbicycle. More very special guests to be announced soon.

Uber DJ/producer Danny Howells launched his conceptual night ‘Dig Deeper’ last year and thankgoodness it’s back for 2006!
After the musically limiting constraints of countless 2 hour guest slots in the World’s finest discotheques Danny decided to tailor his own evening to better reflect his famously eclectic tastes.
Of Dig Deeper Danny says: “I got to the stage where the usual 2 hour sets were becoming a bit stale for me personally - I do them when I have to but I’ve always felt a lot stronger when I’ve been in control of the entire night. It’s what I enjoy the most, and it can be the most rewarding experience as a dj, which I why I’m looking forward to the next party so much!”
Literally digging deeper into his vast vinyl vault Danny intends to continue surprising dance floors with a broader more experimental mix of tunes new and old. “Dig Deeper allows me to truly be myself. It’s about me playing for the whole night without any musical boundaries, and having fun doing it at the same time” says Howells
Dig Deeper is at The End, London on Friday March 31st.

This year?s Dance Valley The Weekender comes with an unbeatable line-up of 195 acts spread over the two festival days. News of the ultra-successful 2005 double offering flashed to all corners of the world, and from the reactions streaming in since then it?s clear that this next dance holiday weekend in Spaarnwoude is set to attract a mega-crowd. Also, to get the mega-crowd spinning, there?s nothing less than a mega-act on the Friday!
Dance Valley is proud to announce the appearance of the greatest act in the dance world ? The Prodigy ? on the Friday, with at least 90 minutes of stunning performance! Any dance fan knows that this British stage sensation guarantees a rave show that is going to keep the 15,000 campers bouncing on their air beds well into the night.
On Friday, there will be nine theme areas: Hard Area, Eurogrooves, In-Tec, Loveland, Club, Chill, Entrance, Electronation and Silent Disco. For anyone who maybe can?t sleep after this musical barrage, there?s a sensational night programme on offer that includes the Silent Disco, a 24-hours pub and a game area. The campsite is at crawling distance from the festival grounds and has all mod cons, including a supermarket, camping shop, lots of food and drink stalls, and prime shower-blocks.
Saturday sees the theme areas expand to fourteen: Mainstage, Hard Area, L.E.F., Eurogrooves, Concept, Subliminal Sessions, Loveland, Circo Loco, Electronation, Chill, Entrance, Talent, and Silent Disco. The fourteenth is a surprise that will be revealed later on!

Its battle of the label bosses, where London meets New York, as The Key plays host to two true key players on the scene. Output Records head honcho Trevor Jackson steps into the fold for main room duties plus Rong Music?s DJ Spun, aka Jason Drummond, flies in to set down the more soulful grooves in the back room of our next instalment of Skookum.
A true musical entrepreneur, from designing influential record sleeves in the 80’s, to remixing artists such as Massive Attack, Run DMC and UNKLE in the 90’s, Trevor Jackson has remained at the forefront of the dance music scene, most recently his re-work of KC Flights ?Front the Back? is a current club fave that has been picked up by Defected Records for wider release. As label boss of Output Records he is responsible for signing seminal and visionary artists such as LCD Soundsystem, Four Tet & Black Strobe.
Support in the main room comes from Scottish underground house soldiers Deportivo Street Team showcasing their ?electronic-sleaze-funk? tracks through a LIVE set.
On the eve of an anticipated new compilation release on Rong Music, Spun will be leading the way in the back room. Expect a selection of tracks from his prolific and much hyped label amongst an eclectic set of house grooves with a big hint of soul. On warm up duties we welcome Woody from Birmingham?s forward thinking Jigsaw Music.
Residents Sean Brosnan and Dom Chung complete what could be one of the finest Skookums to date.
